Painting a entry door - color Q and fading Q
Our entry door is in good shape and I'm not in the market to spend $ for a new door. It could use a paint job and I've wanted to change the color since we have new siding now as well. The door is currently white.
The siding is clay colored (darker tan) and the shutters are black. We have some brick work that is the traditional reddish color. White trim on the house.
I was thinking of painting the door black but it's a South facing door so we get a lot of sunlight on it. Do think it will fade quickly? It's a metal door so I would do Rustoleum primer and paint.
the other color I was thinking of was something to coordinate with the bricks but a true red would be too bright, it would need more brownish red probably. I like the idea of the black but I wonder if the brownish red would fade easily too.
Any thoughts?

I LOVE the black, especially with black shutters. I would go to Benjamin Moore and ask them what paint to use for metal doors, one that doesn't fade.

Re: Painting a entry door - color Q and fading Q
My front metal door was painted black and the sun hit's it, it doesn't fade. What did happen was at Christmas time we put a wreath on it and it nicked the paint so I have to repaint it now....

Re: Painting a entry door - color Q and fading Q
I think if you use the correct exterior paint, fading would not be an issue regardless of color. The thing with a black door in full sun is the heat it would attract to your door. As for you having a metal door, I'm not sure what the ramifications would be besides having a hot to the touch door. Another thing to consider is if you have a glass storm door in front which would increase the effects.
Our door is wood and I did paint it black but we are not in full sun, there is an overhang and we do not have a storm door. So for the first year, it's been fine with no swelling or warping.
If I were you 1. I'd go to a real paint store and ask what is best for your metal door. And 2. I vote for black! Pics in album of our black door with black shutters, cream siding and red brick.
