Paraded out...
Anyone else paraded out? From birthdays to hero parades, I cannot do them anymore. I feel like a "party" pooper, but they are just too frequent. Like numerous per week. No real reason to post except to vent.

Re: Paraded out...
Yep and haven’t heard any come by this week yet but I get to watch them on tv too. Not trying to be a party pooper either but the beeping gets to be very annoying. Beep at their house not around and all the way up the block.

Re: Paraded out...
Our neighborhood is kinda big. All the moms show up for every single one, even if they don't personally know the kid. I think that's so weird. Why drive past and wave to someone you don't know? I go out of my way to make sure we go to the ones of people we know, but I can't be bothered for neighbors I've never met. I feel like they all drive by and see my car in the driveway... but I've had enough. It's too much to get the kids in the car to drive around the block for someone we don't even know. Just getting them into their car seats takes longer than the drive.

I am not a fan of them so i dont do them!! Though I am giving in and doing one this weekend for my DD cheer gym because I feel bad that they said they have a surprise for everyone and I dont want her to feel left out!

Paraded out...
Yes and now the school is having a ‘reverse’ parade this weekend (where we go see the teachers at the school in our cars) AND I have a 5th grader and I’m hearing this may be some sort of a soft opening test run for a potential worst case scenario graduation for the kids. Parade, parade, parade. Yikes

Re: Paraded out...
I don't have them that often. Maybe 1 time a week, although last week we had 3. I really don't mind going. It's sad these kids can have no real birthday celebration and if taking 15 minutes out of my "busy" day makes them feel special, so be it. Plus it gets me out of the house too.
And honestly, I would much rather do a drive by shout out than sit at Bounce U for 2 hours.

Paraded out...
Boo! My daughter had one last week for her bday and it made her so happy. We set up music and decorations outside and it lifted everyone's spirits. One Debbie downer passserby complained that we were blocking the road. ??. It makes kids feel special and the few that we went to my kids looked forward to making signs etc. Who cares about the honking- When I thought of having one my friend said maybe it wasn't a good idea bc neighbors may not like the honking I was Smh thinking what kind of curmudgeon would Be bothered by that ?!? Now I know!
This is totally meant lightheartedly btw . I'm on my last nerve with everything these days so I get where yuh are coming from.!!

Paraded out...
Not a parade, but my daughters teacher came to our house today with a balloon, pail with a shovel, sidewalk chalk and a Barbie for my DD's birthday. My DD was beside herself. She was soooooo happy. I'm all for these things. I wish we had parades where I live. It lifts the kids spirits. Their whole worlds have been turned upside down.

I haven’t seen or heard any but if someone had one for any of DD’s little friends I’d participate. I feel so bad for these kids who don’t get to do anything fun for their birthdays. If driving past their house would make them happy of course I’d do it.

Paraded out...
I hear you. And I get why they are important - the kids are so happy to see their friends but it makes me sad that this is all we can do. That and lawn signs (my friend's lawn sign company is booming right now).
ETA - We only participate in ones for friends as well - it gets too much and seems weird to partake in them for people we don't know well.

Yesterday I took my two little guys out for a ride. They insisted on wearing their Mario and Luigi costumes which was fine because we weren't going anywhere anyway. We ended up passing a bday parade and they were screaming for me to jump in the parade. I momentarily thought about it because, why not? Who cares? It's someone beeping and yelling Happy birthday but then I thought it would be just too weird with Mario and Luigi. (the real reason they love the parades is because I let them stand through the moon roof)
And my mom accidentally ended up in the middle of one when she went turned at a stop sign intersection and didn't realize. I was on the phone with her. She was like "Well, I guess I should just keep going at this point." and then I hear her beeping and yelling Happy birthday. I was dying.

Re: Paraded out...
Wait, so they would've been dressed as Mario and Luigi randomly participating in a stranger's bday parade just screaming out of the moon roof? Best story I've heard in a while lol you should've let them. I bet the bday kid would've gotten a kick out of it. I nominate your kids to crash every bday parade in character from now on! They really know how to party!

Re: Paraded out...
My sister tried to have one for my nephew. I waited on the end of the block for others to ,show up. Everyone got the time wrong with or had no idea how to do a parade. I gave up. They ended up having a party on the lawn. As people showed up, others left so there 9 at the most on the lawn.

Paraded out...
We participated in a parade for an 80th birthday. It was cute. I saw photos on FB of my cousin's 4YO twins' parade and that looked fun. Depending on their ages, I could see kids wanting a parade even after this quarantine is over!
My husband's birthday is next week. Maybe I'll get in the car and drive up and down the block and honk! LOL!

Re: Paraded out...
I have participated in 6 and have 2 more on saturday.
We have a pick up truck and we now call it the parade vehicle. We reuse all the decorations and we have all gotten good at the set up and breakdown!
I get a little annoyed because there are so many and so frequent but my stepdaughters love it because they're so bored and they get to see their friends.
It's a big deal for them, it's the only thing they do and they enjoy it, so I take my adult brain out of it and look at it from an 11 year old's perspective.

Honestly I prefer them!

Re: Paraded out...
We haven't done any. My kids are not interested. They think it's a waste of time. DS does not want one for his bday at the end of the month. We are going to my niece's sweet 16 one next week because she's family.

Re: Paraded out...
My 10 year old just had one and he was so happy seeing his friends- they were throwing bags of candy and envelopes and the signs they made for him It was so kind and generous and thoughtful.
I did specifically ask the parents to honk like a-holes down the street lol
For five minutes, the kid had a great birthday
