Parents of 7th and 8th graders
If you and your DH are not home til after 5:30 pm what do your 12 and 13 yo do after school?

My stepson used to stay home by himself for the 2hrs. My DH & his mom would call him and he had to have his hwk done. I think for a time he did an after school activity for an hour and then he would be home alone till 5:30 or 6. He was bussed home.

My oldest would stay home from 6th grade on for about 2 hours. She would do homework, eat, watch TV.

I have a 6th grader. He lets himself in and does his homework and waits for us to get home.

I have a 6th grader in MS and he gets home before I do sometimes. He has a key and let's himself in. I am home 10 minutes later.
If I were not home till 5pm? Then he would be in some kind of after care program, or I would have someone at my house staying with him. I would not trust him home alone for more than 1 hour.

What about in 7th/8th grade?
Still no.
He will be in 7th grade in September and my plan is not changing one bit.

when I was that age, I stayed home alone by myself. I did my homework, talked to friends on the phone.
