Re: Parents: who have a really good bedtime routine going with their infant
If we go out after their bedtime, we have our stroller or pnp to allow them to sleep. We put them in the stroller at bedtime, they fall asleep in there. When we move them to their carseats, they usually wake up and are awake until we get home. We put them in their cribs and they're off to sleep. Maybe give her a lovie or something to soothe her when her routine is altered?

Re: Parents: who have a really good bedtime routine going with their infant
Well, I almost never put her in her crib asleep if we've been out for that reason: I like her to know that she's home so that she doesn't get scared when she wakes in the middle of the ngiht and isn't where she fell asleep. I have found that even when we are out late, I come home and try to do some part of the end of her bedtime routine. Part of her routine is watching a classical baby video in her pack and play, I'll usually pop her in the pack n play for 4 or 5 minutes with the video on, and I swear it signals to her that it's bedtime. That's the last thing she does before she goes to bed, so I figure, even if it's just in MY head, that it helps her know it's bedtime now.

Re: Parents: who have a really good bedtime routine going with their infant
I've done it two ways. DH parents and my parents live out of state so if we are there, what we do is wait until her bedtime, do her routine and put her in the carseat and go. Most of the time she transitions to the crib and sleeps until morning.
Recently, we put her down in her PNP out, then when it was time to go, we put her in the carseat and go home. She usually falls asleep in the car, then we transition her to bed.
She is almost 7 months old.

Re: Parents: who have a really good bedtime routine going with their infant
Since DD was about 9 months old, when her separation anxiety peaked...when we were out past bedtime, I NEVER put her pj's on before we got home. So if she fell asleep in the car or at someones house, we would get home and change her so she knew where she was and she would go in her crib drowsy.
Depending on how tired is, she would dictate if we read a story or not.
Before that age, she would get pj's on before we got home, but we would always change her diaper.
We hardly ever let her go to bed out cold, always drowsy.

Re: Parents: who have a really good bedtime routine going with their infant
DD is 8 months and we very rarely keep her out much past her bedtime, since she usually won't sleep anywhere but her crib.
Sometimes she stays up while we are out (if it's not too much past her bedtime) or I rock her to sleep in her stroller. Either way she wakes up when I move her to the carseat. Sometimes she stays awake for the ride others she falls back to sleep, but we always wake her at home to change her into her pj's. That way she knows where she is and its bedtime.
