Paris' Medical Condition -- Mental, Not Physical *UPDATE*
Apparently crime does pay when you're Hollywood's hottest heiress.
Paris Hilton left the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California, early Thursday morning after serving only three days of her sentence, and has been reassigned to 40 days of house arrest, LA County sheriff spokesperson Steve Whitmore said.
"It is not an early release -- it is a reassignment,” Whitmore stressed. She will fulfill the remainder of her time from home.
He added that the decision is "not unprecedented and happens occasionally.”
The 26-year-old heiress will be monitored via ankle bracelet and will be allowed to leave her home and venture into her front yard (to get the mail, for instance,) but for no longer than 30 minutes.
Whitmore cited medical reasons as the underlying reason behind the decision.
"After extensive consultation with medical professionals it was determined this reassignment would take place."
However, Whitmore was not at liberty to disclose the medical conditions responsible for Hilton’s reassignment. "[There are] privacy issues that prohibit me from doing that."
Hilton was doing time for a February arrest for a probation violation and reckless driving, stemming from a previous DUI arrest last September.
A judge originally ordered Hilton to serve 45 days but her jail-time was reduced to 23 days on account of good behavior.
The Simple Star turned herself in at the Men¹s Central Jail in downtown L.A. at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, and was transported to Lynwood where she was booked at 11:38 p.m., just hours after attending the MTV Movie Awards, where she was the butt of several jokes about her impending jail stint.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paris Hilton's medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that's why she was released early this morning.
Psychiatrist Charles Sophy visited Hilton in jail yesterday and the day before. We're told after Sophy's visit yesterday, word was passed to the Sheriff that Hilton's mental state was fragile and she was at risk.
The reason for releasing her had nothing to do with a rash or other physical issues. It was purely in her head.
Last month, on the eve of a trial in which Hilton was accused of slandering socialite Zeta Graph, Dr. Sophy told the judge that Hilton was "emotionally distraught and traumatized" over her jail sentence, which prevented her from participating in a meaningful defense. That trial was put on hold until August.

the reason this makes people mad is, if it were me, and i was a single mom, w/ no one to watch my kids.... and did what she said, i'd go to jail 45 days, and that is just tough luck for me...
for her, the poor millionaire, gets to go home. it just isn't fair!

Total BS!! And to think, her lawyer said when she first went in that one of the things she was going to focus was how to change some people's view of her. Well, gee, this certainly helps!!! As usual, a spoiled, rich celebrity IS above the law.

what is this so called medical condition...and why has it suddenly become an issue?
I would think that if the condition is serious enough than she needs to go to a hospital...not house arrest.
there are plenty of people who are suffering from some sort of illness who are in jail/prison...and they don't catch any breaks.

so does she have an eating disorder or is she on a hunger strike...still either way there are plenty of people with all kinds of illnesses that are not released because of their medical conditions. Illness does not excuse or shorten most people's sentences...she is just getting special treatment because of who she is...i'm sure that if one of us wrnt to jail for a dwi, and we suffered from the same medical condition as paris, we would be serving our sentence in jail, not at home.
