party! party! party!
thank you all for the support through this craziness!
i was a nervous wreck the last week. there was a lot of deep breathing and counting to 10. as we all know, big events bring out the worst in your guests. there were fights with SO's kids (because no one wanted to give grandma a ride to the party... or care for her in any way), there was the guest who wanted to bring extra people at the last second and then got offended when i had to say no.
there was a little extra nervousness in the house... which started to give SO a vibe of something being different. then, when we were burning time (so his son could get grandma there before us), he saw one of our guests all dressed up. so...
when the elevator door opened and everyone yelled, he looked at me and said, "i had a feeling this was going to happen." so, he wasn't COMPLETELY surprised at the last minute. the second thing he asked me... in the same breath was, "are we paying for this?" i told him i had already paid for it. throughout the night he kept asking if i had really already paid it all or how much are we in the hole for this. i assured him it's all paid.
he was the social butterfly he's never been!!!
all the guests, except for his kids (the joy), kept telling me over and over how awesome everything was and how they loved the place! i've never heard so many compliments!
the food was amazing!!
the dj was on point at every moment. he's perfect at reading the crowd and played the few must-haves i requested.
the photog was perfection!!
the service at the venue was exactly what i would have wished for.
seriously, not a single complaint!
when i cake came out... with the buggy... the birthday boy LOST HIS SH!T! he acted like a five year old. the cake came out to the Beatles birthday song... the birthday boy just wanted to blow out the candles and cut the cake, but everyone started singing! ha!
i took that buggy off the cake faster than you can say BOO. i was so scared. it was encased and taken care of!
i danced and i danced and i danced. i danced with kids, i danced with my cousins, i danced with strangers. i didn't care. i danced until my feet went numb! thank god i brought extra shoes.
that man has never said "thank you," "i love you," or kissed me as much as he did last night.
oh, finally.
i was afraid, but prepared to burn through the bar tab and would have to pony up more money... well, i am happy to say that we didn't even reach the halfway mark until 3/4 into the party. i didn't have to spend an extra dime. yay!
i know i've forgotten something, but i'll share as soon as i remember.

It’s funny when you give surprise parties because they can sense it right before. At least that has happened in my expierence.
So the stress is all gone! Yay!

You should be so proud of yourself. What a fantastic evening. So glad to hear that the guests, birthday boy and especially you had such a wonderful time. You really outdid yourself.

Sissy, i can't believe how old my kid is. when the hell did that happen??? he'll be 24 in february. can you believe that in august he will be leaving the marines... where did those four years go?!
all day, today, SO has been questioning me about how much things cost and how hard/easy was a particular item to do. he got a phone call from a buddy and i overheard him talking about how his birthday party was "bad-ass!" love it!!
i almost feel that after party high that many of us had after our weddings... when it's the talk of your social circles. i really am on a cloud that there were so few and such minor hiccups on the actual day.

I can see how it would feel that you. This was like planning a wedding. So much went into it!

i've been asking around to see if anyone took a picture of the cake with the buggy, but no luck. i'm going to have to wait for the photographer pictures. he promised them for sometime this week.
i can't wait!!!
