passport question?
My travel agent told me by next year in order to go to Mexico you must have a passport. No more license and birth certificates.
My question is if I send my stuff in this week will I get it before August 21? how long do they take to send it back and what do you need to send? tia!

Re: passport question?
yes if you get it in now, you should have it in time for Aug 21. It takes about 4 - 6 weeks to get your passport. So definatly get it in asap

Re: passport question?
yes it takes 4-6 weeks.
There are also places like RushPassports in the city that can expedite the process and get you your passport sooner. I applied on a Wendesday and it was ready on a Thursday.
It costs more and should be used only in an emergency

Are you going this year or next? In your post you said the travel agent said next year, meaning if your going this year you wouldnt need a passport. If you going next year you would have more then enough time to get your passport.
Just a little confused, sorry.

Re: passport question?
Also, if you are worried, you can have it expedited @ an extra fee and get it within 2 weeks.

Re: passport question?
The U.S. Government is proposing provisions to the Intelligence Reform Bill, passed last December, which requires that the current Western Hemisphere passport exemptions be phased out. That means the new passport rules for all U.S. citizens and other travelers coming to and leaving the United States will be put in place. The proposed rules will be phased in as follows:
December 31, 2005 – Passports required for all air and sea travel to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Central and South America.
December 31, 2006 – Passports required for all air and sea travel to and from Canada and Mexico.
December 31, 2007 – Passports or other accepted travel documents required for land border crossings to and from Canada or Mexico.

Re: passport question?
You dont need a passport anywhere in mexico or the caribbean right now, just a original birth certificate. As of Dec.2005 u will start to need them. If u are traveling THIS august an original birth certificate with photo ID is acceptable. Any travel agent or airline can tell you this.

Re: passport question?
An original birth certificate has always been accepted as most of my family members for some reason dont get one. Infact we are leaving thursday morning for mexico and I am the only one out of 8 of us that has a passport. lol A passport of course is the way to go. Much easier and quicker

Re: passport question?
An original birth certificate with the raised seal. A hospital birth certificate is not acceptable. It has to be with the raised seal.
