I think two things:
1-Do the c-section. If all the other options might end in a c-section, anyway, you might as well go to it with ease knowing when you'll have your baby.
2-You should post one last belly pic... I'm sure mini-avocado is waiting because he wants one last pic before his debut! (I had to try! )
You're funny!! At this point I'll try anything. I will try to get DH to take a pic of me tonight when he gets home.

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I'm somewhat on the fence. I was scheduled to be induced exactly at 41 weeks, but went into labor the day before. It's funny bc the night before I went into labor, I decided that I was going to tell the doctor that I didn't want to be induced. Even though I was almost a week late I really wanted nature to take it's course. Plus I did more research and found that contractions are worse and sometimes induction doesn't even work and you end up with a c-section.
The contractions were manageable until I stalled at 6 cm so they gave me pitocin. The contractions got worse and then they couldn't get the baby's heartbeat so they then broke my water and then found out that he passed a bowel movement. They put an internal monitor, cathater(sp??) and flushed my uterus with saline to clean out the meconium. After that the contractions were unbearable, then I got an epi and all was good with the world. I dialated, but the baby didn't come down, so the doctor made me sign a c-section consent just in case. She checked me 30 min later and he came down. I was so happy bc I didn't want a c-section. I pushed for an hour and his head wouldn't come out so the Dr. cut me.
Nate did have a cone head/swelling bc of the pushing (see left side of his head in pic). My recovery has been OK, just some soreness and aches.... after all I pushed out a 10lb+ baby. I was just glad I didn't have c-section. I was just really scared to have one. Also the recovery is usually worse.
In the end go with your gut...whatever you decide, the baby will be the one to dictate the true outcome anyway.

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I'd wait a bit longer.....any kind of surgery is traumatic even if it has benefits. I have a fear of needing a C-section-I've already had gallbladder surgery. I know it seems like the easier option (I kind of want one because of the lack of pain from pushing and a fear of "pooping on the table" as you put it!)
Drs, while professionals, aren't always correct. Your body will do what it needs to do!
Good Luck Sandra!!

From what I understand most of the pain will come postop and it ain't pleasant.
As far as pooping.... I was scared I would do it and I did. They had a towel right there and would just wipe and put a fresh towel down when it did happen. It's embarrassing but it's nature and the doctor told me it's not a big deal.

I didn't poop on the table BUT at that point I didn't even care if I did - I just wanted Ava OUT, OUT, OUT!!!! Trust me, after you give birth you'll have absolutely no modesty left

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
What did you want to do? Did you want to let nature take it's course or go for the c-section?
I was so against a c-section but in the end, I'm glad that I had one. The one thing that was painful were the contractions. If you had a scheduled c-section, you could avoid that, right?
At the hospital, I roomed with a few women that gave birth naturally and were walking around great afterwards, while I hunched over still in pain. Of course, there is more recovery time with a section but I think that I recovered pretty quickly and that was only two weeks ago.
If or when I ever do this again, I would go for a scheduled c-section and forget the labor and pushing...
Sorry girls....I don't mean to offend anyone who is for pushing em out...I just like it done for me!

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I know nothing about whats right..or the statistics...but if it was me...I would also be leaning towards the c-section.
Dr.'s usual dont just schedule one upon request...so Im assuming your DR thinks this baby is going to be pretty big (I know, I know they estimate weight wrong sometimes, but sometimes there right) It would just stink to go through all the contractions, and getting induced and all that fun stuff to find out you couldnt push the baby out!
A friend of mine just had her 2nd baby delivered by c-section on Thursday...and she healed quickly and great... BOTH times...
You just have to realize everyone is different...there is a possibility healing can be rough..
WHatever you decided....everything will work out...
BELLY PICS PLEASE...
and by the way...does baby avacado have a naem yet???

I would wait...a c section makes for longer recovery time for you...and its still major surgery and you would have to go C-section each time if you have more.
You though sound like this is what you want to do...so I hope your decision comes to you quickly and then stick with it and get ready for BABY!!!!!!

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I would wait and then when you're 2 weeks late, schedule a c-section.
My daughter was 10 days late. At the one week late appointment (which was a Tuesday) they scheduled me to be induced that following Tues. I gave birth the Friday before. I had a regular labor and pushed for over 2 hours with the epidural turned off just to wind up with a c-section. I had failure to progress in labor.
I'm on the fence about c-sections. A lot of people think they're no big deal, but they are a lot harder to recover from than natural birth. You can't drive for 3-6 weeks (depending on what your doctor tells you), no stairs for 2 weeks, you can't carry anything heavier then the baby, and if you're planning on nursing, a c-section may make it harder.
I did not have an awful experience or recovery from a c-section but I would not recommend one unless you had to have it. It really takes a lot more out of you than you expect. On top of taking care of a newborn you have to recover from major surgery. You really can't rest the way that you need to.
So I would wait and see what happens. Personally I would not be induced because most wind up with a c-section anyway or you'll have a really hard labor.

Im not so sure how true this is... depending on why you had a c-section will depend on whether or not you HAVE to have another one... my friend had a c-section with her first and since she had already had one they let her choose whether or not to have another...
She had a great experience with her c-section and choose to do it again...but she didnt have to do it that way!

I agree that a previous c-section does not mean you'll have one the next time.

Also - can I ask - how come so many of you are more for a c-section only as a last resort?
I know the recovery is harder for mom but there are so many pros - it's easier on the baby, it's faster, no tearing, no pushing (therefore no pooping on the table ) no potential residual incontinence problems from labor, and the baby comes out looking nicer (no conehead) - I know that's superficial, I just threw that in as a bonus .
Are there risks I'm not taking into account? How awful is the recovery from a c-section really?
How about the fact that a c-section is MAJOR surgery??? Why would you want to choose being sliced open over your body doing what it is meant to do naturally??? A c-section is not easier on the baby b/c the baby is born completely out of it, due to the major drugs they pump into the mother's body...and that can create a downward spiral when it comes to breastfeeding success, etc.
I think your list of "pros" is very backward to be honest. You are not guaranteed to experience ANY of those things (like tearing, incontinence, pooping on the table, etc.) even if you were to deliver in the natural way.
I would wait, wait, wait. Remember that due dates are only arbitrary estimates...and judging from the change your doctors made early on, I'd say there's a good chance they were wrong to move your EDD up to June. So what if they baby is measuring ahead? Sono's are often known to be inaccurate anyway.
My personal opinion is that the baby will come when it is ready...and you stressing over it is not going to make it happen any sooner. Some of the doulas and midwives that I have spoken to have said that there is absolutely a connection between an expectant mother's frame of mind and whether she feels "ready" to give birth to the onset of labor.
Try going for a mani/pedi and a prenatal massage...RELAX, take a nap, wash some baby clothes...whatever is not too taxing on you...and just ENJOY these final days before the baby comes. It's going to happen soon enough!!

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I say you should do what is best for you and follow your docs instructions. Seems there are many of us with our own opinions about this issue, but when it comes down to it, we are not in your situation and only you can make the decision that feels right for you. Good luck, you'll do great no matter what your decision, and you'll recover fine, and the baby will be just beuatiful I'm sure!!!

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
I wanted to wish you luck on your decision! I asked my girlfriend at work what her choice would be because she had a C-section with her first and a vaginal delivery with her second. She said hands down that she would choose the vaginal delivery over the c-section any day. She said her recovery time was much quicker and that it was harder to take care of her newborn with the c-section recovery than it was with her V delivery. Ultimately the choice is yours...I personally would wait it out until next week and then make a decision.

Re: Past my due date... so now what do I do?
Thanks everyone for all the input. I really value everyone's perspective. I've spoken to so many people about this and it's just amazing how differently people feel about it.
My aunt is a Dr at LIJ (used to be an OB) and she is all for a c-section.
My cousin is a nurse at Good Sam, and she was induced twice and had great experiences both times.
I've heard it all pretty much and I know in the end it's our decision.
There are many factors at play here too... the fact that it's a holiday w/e is just not helping things. Both my Drs will be out of town if I go into labor Sat, Sun, or Mon. My amniotic fluid is kind of low. My blood pressure is going up.
But as of this moment, we've decided to wait just a little longer. I'm going to call the Dr now and hopefully schedule an induction for Tuesday, my original due date, if he's okay with that.
Then I will do everything in my power to try and go into labor BEFORE Saturday. So send me labor dust please!!

I would wait. I don't know your ethnicity, but statistically white women deliver their first baby 2 weeks later than the "due date".
Next time I will wait it out, but I was induced the week of my due date (2/22) b/c I had issues with health insurance. Mine was going to end at the end of February, and I couldn't be added to DH's until the baby was born, so I was concerned that I'd be on the hook for the medical bills incurred before the baby was born. I got Cervidil at about 7:30pm on Monday and Pitocin at about 10am on Tuesday and delivered my daughter naturally at 5pm Tuesday. BTW - she didn't have a conehead. Everyone thought she was a section. Here's her picture from the hospital.

Actually, they want to see you poop because then they know you're using the right muscles to push with. I smelled it (sorry TMI) and was like "OH GOD, I POOPED!!" loud enough for the whole ward to hear me! Hubby laughed and they were like "That's alright!". Meanwhile, I kept whining/crying (I was sort of out of it because of two Epi's) that I pooped on the table!
