Pay-as-you-go with monthly fees? I don't get it
If I wanted a cell phone that I just pay for the minutes, is that possible? I RARELY use my cell phone -- once in awhile I'll call my DH's cell if I'm running late or vice-versa.....I don't see the need to pay $70 per month for a cell when I use it about 20 minutes per month MAX.
I'm looking into the prepaid cells, but they have monthly fees, also (which I don't understand.....why a monthly charge if it's prepaid?). Are there services that you just buy a cheapie phone, and only buy minutes when you need them?

I have Virgin Mobile with no monthly fees, I just have to add at least $20 every 3 months to keep the service turned on. I've had the plan for a few years though, so I don't know if you get a new plan if you have that option.

Re: Pay-as-you-go with monthly fees? I don't get it
I have a pre-paid phone service through Tracfone and I love it. I like my phone, it has a camera & texting & everything I need. I only pay $100 total for the whole year, and I get 1,000 minutes or so to use throughout the year (I always have minutes left over at the end of the year, and it rolls over to the next year). For us, it's perfect, because we have a land line and only use our cell phones for the occasional text or quick call.

We got this for my mom a few years ago - if you hook it up with a CC it's only $15/3 months. In the end, it's only $5/month for her - so it's still better than putting her on my $10 family plan.

Where did you get the phone? I see them on bestbuy.com -- and they all say "No Contract" -- I assume these are the ones that would work?
I'm thinking of getting this for my MIL for xmas since it would be great for her to have in emergency situations. Do you just use the top up cards plus the $5 a month?
