Payment Regarding Birth Question
I just got a bill for the hearing test they did on the boys in the hospital that NYS mandates. It's $700 and they claim my insurance won't pay it. When i went onto my insurance website i don't even see a denial of the claim. I am going to check into it more when i get a minute...but I was wondering did any of you who gave birth have to pay this out of pocket?
Seems kind of odd to me that a test that is mandated that you get by the state won't be covered by insurance. And $700 is a little steep for me.

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
You should receive a check in the mail covering the cost from your insurance company. We got the bill and then a few weeks later received the check from ins.

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
But my insurance company usually covers all bills without involving me in them at all. Was this bill different for you as well??

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
Sounds like a bunch of garbage to me. You insurance should cover it. It is mandatory. My insurance covered DDs...I'd resubmit the claim and call the ins co.

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
I'm not sure the reason they told me in the hospital but I got a check from my ins co, they didn't pay them directly and I had to forward it to the hearing test people

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
I would call the insurance company. I got a bunch of bills after the boys were born that the hospital said I woed and the insurance was still in the process of paying them.
I got a 100,000 bill for my son and I was flipping untl I realized Aetna is just very slow in paying.

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
Its a bunch of crap! First my insurance denied it, because they said my daughter wasn't on our insurance. No Shyt Sherlock, she was just born!!
Then we get a claim saying they only paid $77 of the $350 cost. The Audiology place billed us for the remaining $$.
I paid it, Dumb Azz I am. Because just this week we got a form from our insurance saying they paid the claim Now I have to find the number to this Audiology place and get my money back! She was born 6 months ago!!

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
I just got billed for this - it was $350/baby. I was told that it was an "out of network provider" even though I never had an option. My insurance eventually covered the cost because the audiologist was considered and ER doctor and therefore was covered in full. Definitely check with insurance.... and have the audiologist re-submit the claim

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
Definately call your insurance company! We were billed for a pediatric doctor that was in the room that wasn't in our ins plan but when I called my ins they gave me no problems at all and paid the bill.

Re: Payment Regarding Birth Question
We got a letter from the audiology place stating that the ins co. rejected the claim because they are not in my network but that they are resubmitting it because this is a state mandated exam and we had no choice in choosing the provider. My ins co. is now "reconsidering" it so I expect they will eventually cover it.

It really has to do with whether the Doc submitted the claim properly.
