PCOS - Provera questions

I had a baby in August; was actually pregnant w/ twins, but one passed away after delivery. Anyway, 4 months later, no period. The dr sent me for bloodwork and I was told I had PCOS based on my LH level and they recommended I go on birth control. First of all, can PCOS be diagnosed without a sono? Also, I do not want to go on birth control. I am taking Provera starting tomorrow, but the dr warned me that is a temporary fix. However, I do not want to waste months and months on the pill. The reason being is that I'm turning 37 next month and while the thought of being pregnant after what I went through is scary, if we do end up trying, it will be in the next few months. So to me, wouldn't going on the pill be as pointless if I were to go off it in a few months?

Sorry if I'm making no sense, but I don't know what to think now. Also, I apologize for posting here, I did not know where to post this.

i agree with you. you should definitely have a sono to try and confirm the PCOS - if you go on the IF board you may be able to speak with ladies who know more about it than i do. i am pretty sure that PCOS can't always be diagnosed with a sono only - but what if it's something else? wouldn't you want to have the sono, if just for peace of mind?

also, you are right about the pill - if you were to go on BCP now, and then go off it in a few months to try and have another baby, why would you even start in the first place? unless you are having painful symptoms of PCOS, in which case the pill will help to keep that under control.

Thank you for the reply! I might ask about the sono.
