I was just diagnosed with PCOS and was put on Metformin today.
Any feedback?
ETA: This helps to make you ovulate correct? Anyone get pregnant?

welcome watch your carbohydrate intake--- you may find yourself in the bathroom more frequently for a few weeks- but don't worry, it will subside GL!!!

ITA. The first day I took my pill I was in the bathroom the whole day. It can run havoc on your tummy if you don't watch what you eat. That was the only side effect I got from taking Metformin and it went away about a 2 weeks later. The first two days were the worst. I did have to adjust my diet. Every once in a while I still get Met tummy. Especially when I eat to much junk foods.
GL!!!

Re: PCOS and Metformin
Same as the PP said, it can be really hard on your tummy. I have IBS so i still have problems even though I have been on met for almost a year. It gets very bad if I have a lot of sugar or overload on the carbs.
If you were prescribed 1500mg, start slowly and build up. Take 500 the first week, 1000 the second and then 1500 the third. It will help your body adjust to it as you increase the dosage.
Good luck!

That's exactly how I was prescribed. I took the pill about 3 hours ago..so far so good.

ITA with everything the PPs said. It took a few weeks for me to adjust to the medicine, but I gradually worked my way up to 1500mg and have been on it for almost four months now. For the first time ever, last cycle, I ovulated on my own -- so yes, I think the meds are definitely helping.
Good luck to you! Feel free to FM anytime you have questions

Totally agree!! At first the Metformin disrupted my insides but it didn't last that long. Right away I adjusted how I was eating, I ate less carbs and more fiber rich foods, and my body adjusted. In fact, I became SO regular on the Metformin that it was wonderful!! It's not that bad once you get use to it. My RE started me slow too working up from 500mg/day to 1500/mg a day so that my body would adjust. Good luck and I hope you have the same luck with Metformin as I did!!!!

Re: PCOS and Metformin
I've been on it for three months and I haven't figured out what, exactly, triggers a bathroom episode.
I'm also on synthroid, so mornings can be a bit rough because I can't eat for an hour after taking the synthroid. At the same time, I feel weak and lightheaded from the met and not having eaten in 10+ hours.

Re: PCOS and Metformin
ditto what everyone says about watching carbs. Try to avoid bad carbs (white bread, white rice & pasta. Eat whole grains instead. Lower your fat intake too. After 3 months on Met I was o'ing on my own and got pregnant my 6th month on it. I continued it through my first trimester and then was weaned off at the begining of the second. My ds is noe almost 4 months old. Stick with it, most womens bodies adjust to itand the side effects subside. good luck.

It's supposed to help. I saw a nutritionist that DRASTICALLY changed my diet. (Doctors okayed it because she is in their practice.) That helped me lose weight.
For me, the metformin did not work. After about 6 months of it not changing any of my hormone levels, I really began to question my doctors. They said they wanted to wait longer, but I pushed. Come to find out, my PCOS was an effect of something else I had. Once they started treating the other thing, I ovulated for the first time in years!!!!!!!!
I always questioned my diagnosis because I had VERY regular cycles until about my mid-late twenties. So, listen to your body, ask questions and tell the doctors everything that is going on! (Even if you don't think it's important.)
