PCOS -Metformin question
Hi ladies -
so I went and met with Dr Kwak in Chicago about our reccurent miscariiage and dq match etc. She was very thourough and also found that I have mild PCOS. She put me on metformin. I know a few women here are on this as well and I understand it can upset your stomach. i was wondering if you found a better time to take it. Like at night etc? Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: PCOS -Metformin question
I don't take my entire dosage together (per my doctors orders) I take my first pill in the morning with breakfast (I find it easier on my tummy to take it with food), and the 2nd pill I take at bedtime, unless it's during my Clomid week, then I take the Clomid at bedtime and the 2nd Metformin pill with dinner.

Re: PCOS -Metformin question
I was on Metform extended release. I took one 750mg with breakfast and one with dinner. Also please make sure to take your folic acid at a different time than your metformin. Metformin interferes with the absorption of folic acid which can lead to nerotube defects when you get pregnant. metformin manifesto You also may want to check this out. It is a long read but has a lot of information. I found it on fertilityfriend when I started the Met. Good luck

Re: PCOS -Metformin question
I have been on Metformin for 2 years and it only bothered my stomach for the first 2 weeks or so. It wasn't too bad. Everytime they raise the dosage amount they say I may be affected again, but I haven't had any problems adjusting. And it does work. I never ovulated before and now I do quite regularly.

Re: PCOS -Metformin question
I take it 3 times a day - once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and one before I go to sleep. I have had some really bad days on it, but things seem to have settled down now. Unfortunately, I haven't ovulated on it, I've been on for about 3 months. I am going to an RE next week to discuss what's next.

I was charting and my charts showed ovulation and everything. My cycle was so regular you could have set your watch by it. But I have PCOS. I had some blood work done annd it showed I was predisposed to diabetes. Because of that my doctor did an internal to check my ovaries and they were polycycstic . Turns out I wasn't really ovulating. My body was working almost perfectly but it was not realeasing the egg. The only real symptom I had was unexplained weight gain. I was unable to lose the weight no matter what I ate and how much I worked out. I went on the met and I started ovulating (third month on it), lost the weight and got pregnant. Good luck

Re: PCOS -Metformin question
metformin is rough I have never been able to take the full dose i am supposed to be on 2000mg but can only keep down about 1500mg I start off slow though and maybe take 500mg for a week then 1000mg and so on till I get to as much as I can take sometime I will break up the pill and have half with breakfast and then an hour later the other with yogurt or something to coat the stomache until I get used to it. I was finally getting used to it when the docs took me off cause i was pregnant then I lost the baby and was never put back on until a few weeks ago cause I am doing IVF now and between that and other meds...OMG
