Pedestal sink or vanity?
We are redoing the bath on the first floor and adding a second bath right above it. We went looking for a replacement vanity for the first floor yesterday and I was very picky about wanting drawer space but then I realized that once the bathroom is in upstairs - we'll be keeping our personal bathroom stuff up there - not on the main floor. Anyway, if you had limited storage, would you opt for a pedestal sink in the main bath (neither bathroom is big so it would be nice to have the smaller ped sink in the main bath to open it up)?

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
I don't like pedestal sinks. even for a guest bath, I would still want to keep extra TP and cleaners in there.

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
I have pedestal sinks in both bathrooms and prefer them. However, I also have closets in both bathrooms for storage so I didn't need the extra storage that the vanity offers.

Have been looking around and think I may go with something like this that doesn't seem to take up too much space. What do you think?

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
The question is... when guests stay over, which bathroom will they use? If it's the guest bathroom, you need to provide enough room for one/two sets of towels, washcloths, extra toilet paper, and a place for them to lay their own toiletries - toothbruses, shaving stuff...
We have a pedestal in our guest bathroom and although I know why they did it (it's small too), I wish they hadn't.
I like the pictures you posted but I'm just not a big fan of those sinks that you can see the front of. It always struck me as a fad that will be "out" by the time we want to resell.
I like the wood color though and the medicine cabinet.

What about something in between? half open:
That's from Pottery Barn because they're the first ones I thought of but you could probably find that style anywhere.

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
We put a pedestal sink in our first floor bath, mostly because it was the look I wanted but also because I found I could get a nicer one for the money than a comparably priced vanity. All the vanities I liked were $$$.
However, we put a cabinet on the wall over the toilet, because we did need some storage in there.

DW and I like the vanities. Even if you don't need the extra storage, I like the fact that the vanity hides all of the plumbing. It's hard to hide the drain pipes and the water supply pipes with a pedestal sink.

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
I would go for a small or slim vanity over pedestal.
I just think to store a few things is more practical than no real storage at all.

LOVE these - but don't want to spend that kind of $$! We'll see if I can find something similar. THanks

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
I know, PB is wack. I only use their catalogs for ideas and go find it cheaper somewhere else!
Would you mind FM'ing me or updating this thread with your results? Thanks!

Home Depot expo sells similar ones that may be cheaper.

Same here (2 of our baths have pedestals and 1 has a cabinet). Check out Kohler for beautiful pedestal designs. I have the Portrait series & Archer Series and love them!!

Re: Pedestal sink or vanity?
I fought for a pedestal sink in our main bath - it is our only bath until we build upstairs - and in the end, DH is glad I "won".
Aesthetically, I didn't want anything else.
Functionally, we have a built-in storage cabinet in the bathroom and a linen closet just outside the bathroom. Plenty of storage and no issues with guests.

I agree with this and this is exactly what we are doing.
We went to Lowes today and bought our new vanity for our full upstairs bathroom. It's a 2 drawer and 2 door vanity that is 36" wide and 21" deep.
For the downstairs bathroom, we are keeping the pedestal sink and have a mirrored cabinet above it that can hold supples/medicines for guests.
This is our downstairs bathroom. I do have to say, this opens up the bathroom and gives it more space.
