Pedestal Sink vs Regular Vanity Sink in Small Bathrooms
It's me again. I'll be forever posting this month seeking the general consensus in my house getting ready for market. I need to bounce ideas off someone. My husband is no help.
So my current pedestal sink has finish chipping off from the metal park of the drain thingy (you can tell how much i know about these terms). Can you re-finish it?
If not, I was thinking about replacing it with a small regular vanity sink. I'm not crazy about pedestal sinks. I like armoire-y type furniture.
Which looks better to you? Also remember it's a small area that this has to fit in.
pedestal sink pros- looks more open, cons-storage
regular vanity pros-storage & counter space cons- looks less open in small space

pedestal sinks save space but then yoou lse all your storage area. i got a vanity/pedestal sink. its open underneath, you can put towels under there folded nicely or get a basket to store things in underneath but it is still small and narrow like a pedestal.. i think most people look for some type of storage

The metal drain assembly you can get from HD and replace in 10-15 minutes. I've done several of them myself.
I prefer vanity sinks, even in small bathrooms. The extra storage is great. You don't really save a whole lot of space with a pedestal sink, it just looks like you do. The sink basin determines where you can stand, not really what's beneath the basin dimensions.

Re: Pedestal Sink vs Regular Vanity Sink in Small Bathrooms
I vote vanity, even if it's a very small one. I just prefer them to pedestals, which look a bit clinical and "unfinished" to me. I'm in the same boat our bathroom is VERY small, like 5' x 6' so I'm trying to renovate it in my head to make the best use of the space; our current vanity is some 1970s laminate eyesore and I can't wait to get rid of it!

Re: Pedestal Sink vs Regular Vanity Sink in Small Bathrooms
If it's a half bath, I think a pedestal sink is a good choice. Buyers generally like the look of pedestal sinks in a small bath, and storage is less of an issue.
But if it's a full bath, I would opt for a vanity. When we did a minor facelift for our master bath, we needed to find a really narrow one (given the tight space). I think we got a 19" one at Lowe's --- it was pretty inexpensive, but it looks really nice (it's a dark, espresso wood with a white sink). It alone made the bathroom look so much more updated. But the options for a narrow vanity were definitely fewer, in terms of styles and finishes.
