Pediatric Dentist Out of Pocket vs. Insurance for 2.5 year old

My job has talked me out of covering my dd each year since she has been born. I pay toward my dental benefits and I have been convinced each time that at her age it would be cheaper for me to pay out of pocket than it would be to pay to upgrade my plan to family dental and to wait to add her on until she is of age to start having more dental issues.

What is the going out of pocket rate for a pediatric dental visit? In the event that she could have a cavity at this age, what is the out of pocket expense to take care of that?

I was told at her age I could add her on at anytime and do not have to wait for the annual open enrollment period, so I again passed on having her covered. I figured at her age chances are she would be cavity free and paying out of pocket would be cheaper than the additional nearly 1,000 a year to put her on. But now I am having second thoughts.

I had to have my son put under ansthesia as he would not sit for the appointment. He had to have a cavity filled & two teeth pulled. It cost $4,000 with the anstheisa.

I was devstated but it had to be done... I wish i had picked a better plan for him. Now I know the hard way.
