Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
I think it depends. If the item is brand new, I think the person selling should try to recoup as much money as possible. For example, I have a wine cooler in the garage that has never been opened. It's still in the original box sealed. I am going to try to sell it for as much as I can on Ebay. However, I agree that used items, even gently used items, should be donated or sold for cheaply!!!

This is something that annoys the cr@p out of me. Not so much on here but definitely on craigslist & ebay...
Im not one to want anything for items that I have that I no longer need. I might ask for a package of diapers (if it's a baby item) but I dont really care. I care more that it's going to someone who could use it...the only thing that I ask for in return is that they cant sell the item when they are done with it..They have to pay if forward and give it away..
I see people selling items on Ebay that cost more than they do at the store...that I NEVER understood.
That is because you are so sweet!
Spinoff - I hate when I give things to friends and they turn around and sell them on Ebay or CL. That annoys me.

Really?? I would never do that! That's crazy!!
As for people selling on ebay things for more then they cost, part of the fault is the buyer. I mean I sold some formula on ebay. I started ALL at 0.99 and one auction was for 3 HUGE cans of Similac Sensitive plus a RTF. I never expected to recoup all my money but I couldn't bring it back to the store since I lost the reciept. I was shocked when I got back about 80% of what I spent PLUS the buyer had to pay $25 for shipping to CA So I think some buyers just aren't educated or don't use coupons!! I mean for the actual retail price he still got a good deal, but I never buy those cans without the checks!

Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
I gave up on Craigslist and ebay. That was ridiculous. We saw outdated, faded outdoor toys that were a few years old and they were only about 25-35% cheaper than something new.
I get coupons and shop sales and buy all my stuff new.
I gave up on used items. If you hit sales, you can get great deals.
When it's time to sell DS' stuff, I will price fairly for what it's worth (the price of USED stuff).
I find coupons and sales to give me the best deals.

Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
This is my first time using the the BSS Thread and I didn't even put prices for the items. I asked people to make reasonable offers.
Since I had twins and eventhough I had a shower, lots of the stuff I bought myself. That being said, it has been ever so gently used because it was at my mothers.
I think asking for at least 50% less then the sale price is okay, that way you can bargain down.

I mostly give away my used stuff. If its new I'll try to sell it before giving it away.
I agree that used items should be at LEAST 50% off the purchase price.

Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
I think people should be able to ask for whatever price they want to sell it for. As buyers, it is our choice to buy or not. If something is overpriced then we obviously wont buy. But it is the seller's choice when it comes to what the price would be. Its nice that some people give away their stuff for free but that doesnt mean everyone should.

I personally couldn't "sell" any of DC used toys or other stuff. I always just give them away, but I do try to find women who I think are in need of the items.
Same here!

Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
I think it really depends on what it is and the situation.
I had a carseat...brand new...never taken out of the box on there. I was asking for $70 or $75 when it retailed for $100. I was hoping to sell it and put the money towards another one I wanted.
At the same time eveything else I gave away for free. Clothes...diapers...formula.
If a family really needs the money I don't see anything wrong with trying to get what they can.

brand new is a whole other story! i would definitely pay like 75% of the price for brand new.
it's the used stuff that gets to me.

Re: people asking and expecting a lot for used items???
New items are another story. If it's a used item, you have to expect to be talked down in price. Times are tough right now and we all want to make some extra money, I can totally understand that. But I agree that some prices I have seen are a little high.
