I never had a fake name. Just not my style. I just kept quiet. But after having surgery just to be able to get PG and after two miscarriages, I wasn't exactly elated when I found out I was PG for the third time. I was scared sh*tless and wasn't about to sare anything until I knew my pregnancy was safe. Even at 26 weeks today, I never feel 100% - always waiting for the other shoe to drop. I am sure many people who have had long roads and disappointments would agree.
People have their reasons for talking right away and for staying quiet. Some people need the support of a public forum and others prefer to deal with things privately. Either way, it needs to be respected.
I will say this, NOTHING is worse than the FM's that ask you if you are PG whether you are or aren't. I even got FM's asking me if OTHER people were PG. Frankly I think it is rather rude to ask someone if they are PG when they aren't ready to spill the beans on their own and to ask someone to share someone else's story is even worse. I could never betray someone's confidence like that.
Sorry for the rant but this is a sore subject for me.
thank you for the honesty - i sincerely couldn't think of a reason why someone would use a fake name or just go 'into hiding' as it has been put.

people don't realize that there are thousands (literally!) of lurkers on this site who don't post. family, coworkers, parents of students, neighbors, etc can easily find you if you post personal information and pictures. so unless you're willing to come clean to the world immediately, most people create a fake name. many people have learned this the hard way either on here or LIW.
i had a million questions when i got my BFP and i was dying to ask them. i just wasn't willing to do it under my "real" name since so many people know me in real life and didn't know i was pregnant. i was able to ask my questions and remain anonymous until i was ready to out myself.
pregnancy is very touch and go at the beginning unfortunately for many women. a huge portion of posters have complications or miscarriages, which are devastating in so many ways. so to have the world knowing you are pregnant one day and not the next, is very hard. those first 14 weeks were the scariest and most nerve wracking weeks of my life. you don't need strangers knowing everything about you---some things are best kept in private among you and your family and close friends.

I also think I may know who one of the secret mommmy-to-bes is. 
It is all so exciting, especially since the two most recent hiding new mommys are frequent posters.
I might have to dig a little more, but I promise to keep my thoughts on the DL.
It kills me to be anoymous as well, as though most of you have probably figured out who I am, so if/when I get my BFP, I may have to cover my cover! We'll see...
Congrats to all of you. It is wonderful news.

I totally agree with this statement. This is also the reason I do not post too much information about where I am in this process. I will not create a fake name when/if I get my BFP, I will just wait until I feel "safe" to announce it.

With the whole fake name thing... the bottom line is, everyone is entitled to handle things the way that they choose to. And some, like me-- choose to be more private, while still participating in all this board has to offer.
Nothing against sharing my news with all the wonderful girls on here, it just has to do with what I am personally comfortable with.

I went so far as to look back to try and see when people were O'ing to try and narrow it down...no luck . I guess I'll just wait patiently.

I completely agree with this. For some, getting pregnant wasn't easy. It's even scarier to share the good news and then have something horrible happen. When I got my BFP, I never posted under a fake name- it's just not me. Instead, I chose to remain quiet for 10 weeks until I felt comfortable enough to share it publicly with others. It was what I needed to do for myself and my husband.

i can definitely understand why some people create a fake name to announce their BFP's on here.. I would do the same thing. I would want to talk about my pregnancy without people in my real life reading about things i do not want them to know about yet.

after i hopefully get my next BFP.. i will most likely be in "hiding"
i didnt last time and i ended up having a miscarriage at 16 weeks..and it was devastating!
and besides i had a family member find out before i told anyone..and she told everyone before i did.. so i dont want that to happen again...
and i would rather be on here with a fake name than not at all!

Some people like to air on the side of caution. I myslef also have a nosey lurking family member I have not otld yet. 
LIF is my dirty little secret. Not even DH knows about it. I think he used to lurk on LIW... I know my sister did.

I am in hiding because of my nutty family and my job. I just don't think the family and job should know that my hubby and I plan on banging and injecting soon! I'm not ready to hear the thousands of opinions.
Also, they are pejudiced where I work with promotions and such..and I don't want them to know that I will be trying soon.

I am not pregnant but hiding. I have some friends on here who probably don't know what we're up to and I just prefer it that way. God forbid anything happens I just don't want to deal with telling the whole world and then some that I miscarried KWIM? I am not the type of person that wants or needs support from anyone other than my family and closest friends.

It really depends on the person and their comfort level.
I waited to announce my bfp on LIF and to my family th first time around and had to have the baby at 20 weeks.
My mother begged me to tell her right away with the 2nd baby, and I did. Then the next day I announced it here.
Everyone's situation is different. Good luck to everyone!!

I did the same thing! I've figured out who one of the hiders is, but the rest I'm still working on!

ITA... I knew I was going to have to see an RE and our pregnancy would be a very winding and emotional road...
which is why I am under a different name then on LIW... but sooner or later... hopefully within a few months most of you will know who I am...
