I'm sorry, but to not lock your doors with a kid in the house? Do they not watch the news and see what kind of freaks are out there who just walk into backyards and take kids? We're paranoid about locking the doors now.

I was assuming she meant at night. I keep mine locked during the day too though but I am just not a trusting person. Too many crazies in this world.

We've had some break-ins in the neighborhood over the past few years and now everyone here has their doors locked all the time and alarm systems set at night or when not home. I have one friend locally who sets her alarm when she's home alone.

Ahh crazies and break ins I can understand leaving them locked 24/7. I do have a lock on my door that you can open from the inside with it still locked on the outside. some days it stays locked all day if we dont leave the house. I have my dogs (german shepard and springer spaniel) that let me know if ANYONE is outside and I am also right near the police station. Growing up my mom never locked the house. I guess that's what living in the boonies does to ya

I had a friend in college who lived in the boonies in PA and they left their keys in the ignition of their cars in the driveway all the time. I was shocked!

My DH leaves the keys in the car all the time in the driveway and my ILs leave their doors unlocked 24/7 upstate

Our doors are locked at night, I like to open the kitchen door during the day to get the cross breeze. If I go to take a shower I'll lock it though.
I haven't locked my car door since I left Queens....

Wow. I'm overly paranoid I think. Tomorrow I'm going to try to be more like you guys and open the doors during the day. Hopefully I can relax a little so I won't pass my craziness onto my kid!

Hey, you can be as overly paranoid as you like. My DH is away right now and someone came to the door last night and I pretended like I wasnt home cause I wasnt expecting anyone. Turns out it was a neighborhood kid selling fundraiser stuff But heck with 2 SMALL kids in the house and me alone Im not opening the door to anyone!

i only lock my doors when i am home. when i am home it is always locked.
when i am out it is always unlocked!
lol makes sense dont it?!
nah, i lost my key to get inside so i dont even bother locking it when im out.
i figure teh main door to my building is locked so its ok.
there is only a old man upstairs, but i have three dogs who would tear him a new one if he tried to get in!

My doors are always locked. I won't even sleep with the windows open. I have the air on and fans going. I am too nervous. I was never like that until my daughter was born. I just hear too many crazy stories.

Well this is the story, The people I babysit for always keep their doors unlocked all day long!
Then I am the first person to enter their house from all day being unlocked. I don't know what they do at night. All I know is I'm the first person to go into their home. And it scares the SH** out of me!! I really don't feel comfortable. I told her how I felt and she said well, we never lock the doors. Anyway, I went yesterday again and of course again UNLOCKED
I just don't even trust the neighbors either

I would never think to lock the door while I am home during the day. I think if someone wants in, then they will get in. If my window is open, or a brick goes thru it what is the difference?
