People who live in apartments...
we are having an issue with our top lock
I never had one before- but I just don't feel right in this building not having one
the one I got doesn't fit- it's too small
are they mulitple sizes? I thought it was standard
I have to go back there tonight

Top lock as in a dead bolt? i do think they come in multiple sizes..... I would also get a chain for an apartment door while you are at it.

yep- I will get a chain also- I will buy a few and see what works-
there is only one home depot that has them- which I find odd in queens

Re: People who live in apartments...
call your super, he will help you out!
We had the same problem, the old one broke and there were no new ones we could buy that would fit. So we called our super and he replaced it or fixed th eonld one, i can't rememeber now.
He said those were some kind of special locks

Re: People who live in apartments...
I called a lock smith- they are doing it tomorrow
I'll check the lease- but they are not getting a key- at this point I want to be kicked out- losing my sercurity is starting not to bother me
I just remember her telling me to get one- not to give anyone a copy- it's a co-op building so I am not sure of the rules- I know at my last 2 buildings they needed a key

Re: People who live in apartments...
and I don't have a choice- b/c they only gave me 1 door key- so I don't even have a key for Jake
I asked for another one and she said aren't you going to get your own?
and that was it- nothing about a copy

Re: People who live in apartments...
thanks I'll check the lease carefully
but I really don't want to give them a key- I don't trust anyone there
but I do have insurance - I need to change the address this weekend
it's just stuff and it can be replaced- if the rob me- then I will have them arrested also
I don't think anyone would do that- the building maintence guys are very nice- but you never know

she probably just meant: aren't you going to get a copy of the key made.... No?

Re: People who live in apartments...
We were told to replace the deadbolt when we moved in. The super never asked for a new key and we never gave him one. (I'm in Queens also)

I agree, wouldn't it just be easier to get your own copy made and just add a chain??

Re: People who live in apartments...
I would definitely replace any lock. You don't know how many people out there have a copy of the key to your apartment. People that lived there before could have made keys for a few people. Glad the locksmith is coming. I wouldn't give a key to the building unless I was pushed to do so.
