People who live in Farmingdale
A house we are looking at this weekend is in East Farmingdale. I know Farmingdale gets a bad rep a lot, and I dont see it as bad. I grew up in N. Massapequa, so I know a lot of parts of Farmingdale, but this part I'm not familiar with.
It's on Jefferson St off of Lincoln Ave (Not Lincoln St where the HS is). It's north of SS parkway, so I'm pretty sure it's considered East Farmingdale. I know from the maps there is some industrial area north of this neighborhood, but looking bird's eye at the neighborhood it looks nice!
This house is in our range and has everything we want! My dad said, "it's a shiit area." But I want to know from people who live in Farmingdale.

So everywhere I look or hear, it seems to be a no-no. I am going to drive by just to get a feel for that part since I'm never over there. Just stinks because the house is amazing and a great price. ughhhhh seems like whenever that happens, it's a bad area.
Is it unsafe there? What exactly is the area like that makes it one to avoid? Thanks!

Farmingdale is fine. I teach in the school district and I really like the school I'm in. I might have looked there for houses, except that I didn't want to live in the district where I work.
There are 4 elementary schools in F-dale. I can't speak for residents, but among teachers, the house you're looking at is zoned for the least desirable school - Saltzman Elementary. It's the one with the kids that contribute to the "reputation" you were talking about. Of the other 3 elementary schools, 2 are great and one is pretty good. The middle and high schools are good. The community is nice and the families are really involved. I think it's a good place for you to look, but I don't think you'll find anything but a fixer-upper for under $300K in the more desirable areas.

Oh I know Farmingdale and about the SD. I like most areas. I just didn't know about that one area. From what I've been hearing today its more like N amityville and very industry. Gonna drive over there tomorrow.

are you sure that is Fdale schools?? i would double check - they could be amityville.
I grew up in fdale - I woudln't buy in that area. there are much nicer parts of fdale.

Yup. It;s east Farmingdale and still Farmingdale SD. They go to Saltzman for elementary.

Most parts are. I grew up and live now in N Massapequa close to the Farmingdale SD border. It's a good town, but that one area where this house is seems to be the one area that is a little sketchy.
