People who live OOS?

Where do you live? What do you do? Do you like it? How is the COL vs Salary?

Also do you have family nearby? What made yu decide to move?

I live in the Dallas, Texas area. I moved here from Florida and my husband is originally from NY. He grew up in Riverdale.

The cost of living is really good here. The job market is stronger than a lot of the rest of the country but we have still felt an impact. The housing market is fairly strong, we didn't experience the massive uptake in price so we didn't have a large fall.

I moved here because of a job transfer and I don't plan to live here forever. I don't like a lot of things about this place but the COL is good and the jobs are good.

We have family here now, they moved here after we did. If my husband and I leave the area, our family would stay here.

We live right outside of Charlotte, NC. The housing prices can't be beat, and pretty much the only thing more expensive here is the water.

We left LI because we didn't want to struggle, and to have to pour all sorts of money we didn't have into a house that needed to be fixed up--that's all we would have been able to afford.

Yes, we are away from family members and we've had to make new friends, but we wanted to live comfortably--especially in the event that I wanted to be a SAHM at some point. We love the area, and while it IS a huge adjustment, and we get homesick from time to time, I don't see us coming back anywhere in the near future.

We live in Florida. I'm an admin asst at a college down here and I like it (much better than corporate).

The cost of living is definitely lower (we just bought a 2100 sq foot townhouse and could never have found a place like this in NY for the price we got it for). Although i'm making a smaller salary than I was in NY, DH's salary went up when we moved here so it worked out.

DH's entire family is down here (brother, cousins, parents, aunts/uncles...). We wouldn't have moved if we didn't have family here. My best friend from college is here too but my family is mostly in NY. It's a quick 2.5 hr flight thought so we go up about 2x/yr and my family is always visiting (my mom is coming thursday)!

We decided to move b/c of several things... my job was ending (they got bought out), DH wasn't happy at his job anymore, our lease on our apt. was up and the rent was going up $200/month... so we decided the time was right. We had been talking about moving to FL for years and finally just made the decision.

We are so happy we did, we love it here.

We live in CT, both of us are from LI. We moved up here to finish school and both found jobs here. COL is the same here in CT, slighter lower in some areas, sales tax though is 3% less than NY, taxes are getting to be the same.. I'm in the tri state area so it's pretty much all the same.

We have very little family here, my parents just sold there house and are moving here.

Rest of my family including DH's all still live on LI.

We are about 2 hours away from them.

I live in Southern California, San Diego region. I like it - great weather, beautiful beaches, big cities nearby for industry and cultural stuff and airport access and all that, nice suburban communities, lots of opportunities for outdoor activities due to the climate, and all the shopping and restaurants you could want (like Long Island!). The cost of living is just as high as the NYC metro area though (higher in some areas), and salaries are comparable too (depends on the industry).

I have one sibling who moved here a few years after I did, but lives about 2 hours away. It's nice to have someone "nearby" though, since before that, everyone I knew was across the country. We moved here because DH was stationed here in the military. When he got out, I had a good job and he was able to find one quickly, so we just stayed.
