People who make good coffee at home HELP!
Ok- SO I can't justify 5 bucks a day for dunkin anymore with my truck eating 70 bucks minimum a week. I went out and bought a cuisniart grinder coffemaker. Whether I grind, don't grind, use dunkin donuts coffee, maxwell house, folgers doesn't matter. There is like this bitter bite at the end. What am I doing wrong? Any help, machine recs, private lessons etc would be helpful. thank you all and have a great day M

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
do you have the gold filter or are you using a paper filter? I have that coffee pot & I like the gold filter instead of paper. My DH is picky about the coffee brand, I'll drink anything as long as I don't have to buy out.

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
How much coffee are you putting in ? For a 10 cup pot it is 5 coffee spoon scoops(or you can use a medicine cup) 8 cups = 4 scoops 6 cups = 3 scoops 4 cups = 2 scoops 2 cups = 1 scoop
I have Mr. Coffee thermal pot and I LOVE IT. It does not burn the coffee after sitting for 30 min. It is a thermal pot SO it stays perfect up to about 4 hours. As for my brand I use either folgers or Maxwell and a medium blend. Hope this helps

WE put our coffee maker through the clean cycle a few times before we used it. My MIL told me to do this or the coffee will tast funny.

We had that same coffee maker and hated it. We had that same taste at the end you are talking about. We now have a Faberware perculator pot and I will never go back to a drip.

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
Are you using a bold type coffee? It could be a few things...
- the coffee is ground too fine -type of filter -the type of water you use -use medium/mild roast -do you use sweetener? that can take away some bitterness.

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
We use filtered water for coffee. We don't use paper filters either - we have one that we rinse out.
Also, if I make 8 cups of coffee, I fill the water to 9 cups. I add the 4 scoops of coffee, plus just a little extra. This works for any amount of coffee I make. However, if I make a full 12 cup pot, I add one extra scoop to the pot. People love the coffee I make.

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
It sounds like you are making it too strong. Try starting out with one heaping tablespoon of coffee per cup of water and go up from there according to taste.

This is exactly what I do and doesn't matter if I use DD coffee, folgers, maxwell house etc. they all taste yummy.

1 tablespoon of cpffeeper 6 oz of water
so whatever # you fill the line to, thats how many tablespoons to add
melitta coffee at the supermarket is best
use cold water and any regular old coffee maker and filters will do

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
VERY important to take it out of the glass pitcher right away!
I drink my coffee black and nothing hurts the taste more than when it is sitting on the hot burner. Once it's done brewing put it right in a carafe.

Re: People who make good coffee at home HELP!
I have a Krups coffemaker and grind DD beans fresh. I also have the Cuisinart grinder. I fill up the beans to the "12" on the grinder and then add 12 cups of water - it's a no brainer with this grinder since it has levels for 8-12 cups.
if I make ground coffee, I only use Yuban (get it at Target) - it's SO GOOD! I use 3 scoops/tbsp for every 4 cups of water. it comes out perfect!

My favorite coffee at home is Bay blend from Trader Joes. You got some good advice above, but sometimes if I have some other brand of coffee that is a little bitter, I add some cinnamon to the grounds before brewing. mmmmmm.

We really think percolator pots are the best. Coffee tastes awesome when we have a party and use our huge percolator.
I would like to get a small one so what size is yours?

Not a coffee drinker but DH, my mom & my friend swear by their french press. DH was telling his friend last week that he finally makes the perfect cup of coffee.
