Re: people who work in an office - opinions pls

I am an EA and I yell sometimes. But I think it depends on your office atmosphere. Everyone in my office is always yelling across the room or down stairs (Im in a house made into an office) lol
I agree- my EA yells across the office to me and various staff members and its ok because we are a collaborative group and thats how we work.
I dont think it would work in a law firm though

Im not an EA nor is anyone on my team, but we constantly yell down our row of cubes, just how we work. We are in a corporate office.

Re: people who work in an office - opinions pls
At my former law firm, we had 1 secretary who was really uppity and would do this. She was right outside my office and another attorney's office - yet would just call out random questions and expect everyone to be at her beck and call.
She was fired a few weeks later. Its just not professional - we all ganged up on her at a staff meeting though which was sad but needed to be done.

I don't think it's acceptable at all no matter who does it to whom.

not cool at all. I will say that me and my boss are right next door to each other and do shout each others' names when we need something, but we both do it and our doors actually touch so its not so far away!

I think it really depends on the industry and the way the office culture is.
You know what industry I work in - it's cool here. I would assume that it should be frowned upon in your industry.
People crap on the floor here too so.......................................................................................................

IMHO, completely unacceptable. You are in a professional office act like a professional.

thats immature and unprofessional. Get up and go ask your question, or call them on the phone and say "i have a question, can you come here and discuss..."

It's not professional - but some offices aren't professional & have a more relaxed atmosphere.
If it's not your environment, then I think her boss (or HR) should remind her that she reports to them & not vice versa.

Re: people who work in an office - opinions pls
I'm an admin and 28 yo My boss' office is across the room, not down a hall. We call out back and forth to each other to ask a question all day long. But if I need to show him something, I will get up and go into his office.

Re: people who work in an office - opinions pls
The only time my boss yells down the hall is when he is super ******. He will usually call out multiple names at a time & we all know we better get to his office quick.
That happens maybe once a year.

Re: people who work in an office - opinions pls
It depends on the office. if it was a small, private company, i could totally see this. if it was something such as, hypothetically, a law firm, I think it's more a part of the culture to get up out from behind the desk instead of yelling across the room.

i would say it is very immature and grossly unprofessional.
I agree. I would ignore the person until they got up and did it correctly.

Was she ever called out for this? I would think she just doesn't know better and I would hope that if corrected she would change her ways.

i have no idea. i only recently joined this department. my prior admin assts were not even remotely like this. but, i'm the least senior of the ppl she works for... so i don't think it's my place to address her behavior (for lack of a better word).
thanks for ur responses everyone.

Yeah, I wouldn't say anything personally either, but I might play deaf until she gets off her lazy arse.
