Well that makes sense, if he has to legally recommend it, then he is covering his liability. But again, you and your DH have to think about it. You will ultimately do the right thing for you no matter what it is! Good luck either way.

Nope. I was 35 with #1 and I'm 38 now with #2. All inital test came back great so I didn't have the amnio either time.

No way, not me. If all tests are normal, I feel the amnio is not necessary and is too risky. JMO

TY ladies I will be 35 2 mon. before baby is due dr. said he legally must recommend it due to my age but its my decision
ultrascreen results for DS were 1:2347
I just went back and read this and those are such great odds.
My dr told me he would NOT recommend amnio if all is ok with the tests, regardless of age, unless you want 100% reassurance.
How was your quad screen results?

not if all your tests were fine. XOXO BOTB
Agreed. If all looks good, and you're right on the cusp, I probably wouldn't go for it, but its a personal choice.

Re: Personal ? but need advice
I wouldn't. I only had a CVS done last time since I miscarried due a genetic abnormality before I had my DD. I was terrified something was going to happen again so I wanted it for my peace of mind.

I had an amnio after all previous tests showed me at a DECREASED risk for anything they may have tested for. I was 37 when I had the amnio and I'll be 38 when I deliver. DH knew the risks but were not concerned about the procedure. We had our reasons for having the test and knew exactly what we would have done with results either way. It is not as black and white as most may think. We will have an amnio with baby #2. FM me if you have any questions. I would be happy to share my experience with you.
I'm with Leslie. I am 33 years old [will be 34 when I deliver] and all of my tests came out fine until the Level II. That [calcium deposit on the baby's heat] showed a soft marker for DS so it enabled me to get the amnio at the insurance carrier's cost. I wanted to get an amnio since the beginning- not for age reasons, but rather due to my family's history of DS and mental retardation. DH and I knew what we would have done had the results come back positive for a chromosomal abnormality. To me, peace of mind is what I needed. Also, receiving the amnio at an office that does them all the time, gave me confidence that all would go well. FM me if you would like to talk further about it.
ETA: Though the amnio hurt like a motherfukker... I will be getting one for DC #2, if I am able to have another.

Re: Personal ? but need advice
I wouldn't do it either, I'll be 35 about 4 weeks after the baby is born.
My husband was very nervous because his nephew has downs and his son has some issues. I would have considered it if the ultrascreen had come back high risk, but I came back 1:6,381 for DS and 1:over 10,000 for the trisomy so I decided it wasn't necessary.

Re: Personal ? but need advice
I did not for my first PG & I am not planning on it for this one. i also did not have any of those profiles done, other than the 12 w sono and the level II. You have to do what makes you feel comfortable though.

Re: Personal ? but need advice
thanks ladies neither DH or I have any family history of any chromosomal abnormalities which is why the dr. said he legally had to recommend it SOLELY based on age

Re: Personal ? but need advice
I was told by my dr. it is NOT 40 anymore it is 35 and up that is considered high risks for birth defects so yes I did have an amnio with both pg's. first I had turned 36 2 months before DD was born and this one I will turn 38 6 days after this one is born.
the test is no big deal at all. 123 and its done- you get more results than any of the bloodwork. It is a very personal decision but if you want to be 110% sure than thats the way to go. Good luck with your decision.

Would it really make a difference? If it were not "normal"......you wouldn't love your little bundle any less.....plus....there are risks involved.

I was just wondering what other ladies in their 30's would and have done
it is not a matter or question of love

If you are dead set on getting an anmino for a second one, I would DEFINATELY get a CVS instead. There was NO pain at all. And even though you have to be on bedrest the next day, I felt perfectly fine with no cramping whatsoever. Feel free to FM me.
