i think it covers damage or injury that occurs to someone when they are on your property. i think it would cover medical expenses and also legal fees if you were involved in a lawsuit.

It covers different things and you can buy riders (like if you run a business or child care out of your home, for example). If you have a dog and it bites someone, you have coverage for that person's medical bills and sometimes for settlement. If someone falls on your steps or through your deck, for example, you're covered.
You should ask your insurance agent and they will tell you what your policy does (or will, if you're shopping around) cover and what other riders or policies (like umbrella) that you can purchase.
