Perspective

Do you honestly feel as though you gave persepctive as to what is important in life? Do you feel like you get stuck on the notions that are of a trivial nature?

Now, post what you think AND post what you think others think

Re: Perspective

Deep question...

No, I do not think I necessarily feel I give perspective as to what is "important" in life.

I feel as though many days go by where I totally take for granted the love, family, and happiness I have in life.

Reflecting back I can think of a handful of times were I got "stuck" on or in notions/situations which now to me are trivial but weren't at the time.

I definitely try going forward to realize how "precious" life is and appreciate each day for what it is, a gift.

But I think we are all guilty of getting caught up in the fast paced action of life and take a lot for granted. Unfortunately, from my experience, people change their perspective only after dealing with some form of hardship. It's a shame that it takes something sad to open eyes and appreciate what we have.

When times get tough or I get stressed I try to remind myself that everyone out there is fighting their own battle. And it makes me realize with time, dedication, and heart I can get through it.

Re: Perspective

i know what's important, but that doesnt mean that other things dont get on my nerves. I know that they don't matter in the grand scheme so i dont invest too much into them, but i acknowledge them, nonetheless.

There's this theorist that my whole program is based on named Mazlow. He claims that the highest level one can attain is 'self actualization'.. but very few people in history have ever really gotten to that level. I agree with him. People like to believe that they're at a higher level, but mostly, they're not. For progress i think we should all at least be moving in that direction, but in reality, most people will never get there.

Re: Perspective

I feel like I keep things in perspective on what's important in life, or at least my life. I'm sure there are others that disagree as everyone has different ideas on what's important.

I don't think I get bogged down in the trivial stuff. I rarely stress about the small stuff. I would rather save my energy for the good times.

As for what others think maybe it's a an age thing or a matter of where their own experiences took them but I do think people obsess on trivial notions - or at least trivial to me. I'm sure to them it doesn't seem trivial.

Not sure if I answered your question.

In the big picture, yes. I think I know what is important in life. I know that my family's health and happiness are the most important things in life.

However, I do admit that sometimes I get bogged down in the moment with trivial things. If I screw up, I really beat myself over it. But that usually lasts a few hours, and then I can move on.

Re: Perspective

I know what's really important in life, but I feel like I still take what I have for granted. It's something that bothers me to no end. I try to stop every few days and really give some thought to the things that are really important in life, but I find that everyday life still gets in the way. The drama of daily work-life and the pettiness that is inevitable when living in a house with other family members, etc. It all gets the best of me too often. But I feel like as long as I stop and evaluate it every now and then, and really take time to think about how lucky I am and tell those around me how lucky I am to have them, then that's the best I can do at this point in time. And what else can I do but my best? Not much else.

Re: Perspective

I absolutely feel like I know what is important in life.

Between DH & I, we have a fatally ill parent, and a parent who has a serious illness. We take each day with them seriously, and are grateful for the good days, and deal with the bad days as they come. We're just grateful for the days we have.

We DO get caught up in the "little" stuff, but the little stuff is what makes up the rest of life, and it can't always be avoided. We've learned to take a lot with a "grain of salt," and overlook things when they don't matter in the grand scheme. We've probably got to work on that a little bit, but working at stuff is a huge part of living life and being married, so I figure, we're doing our jobs.

What's important in life (to us, and this is subjective) is having people around that you love and that love you. A roof over your head and food on the table, and someone you can talk to when you've had a really bad day...those are things that make everything seem ok.
