Pet PEEVE.....
I HATE when people address me as sweetie or hun....  IRL and on the boards, I hate it, hate it, hate it
not really sure why but it seems condescending to me. Am I nuts?

Yeah, you know, I skeeve when people call others "Sweetie!" I know that's a really odd thing to *skeeve*, but I just do!! Plus, I'm not your sweetie, ya know?? So, I know what you mean!!

No...I have the same pet peeve. Yes, it is very condescending.
But I also have superiority issues. NOBODY better think they are better than me...EVER 
But in the same token, I don't think that I am better than anyone else.

I call children that-never adults, that's just weird.
As for these names directed at me: I think I am fickle-sometimes I don't mind it, sometimes I do. I don't mind if my elders call me these names. In fact, my neighbor calls me this all the time and it doesn't bother me.

I think it depends on who it's coming from and the type of relationship you have with that person.
I'm not much of a "sweetie" or "honey" saying type person though - but I do know people who are.

My DH calls people honey or sweetie ALL THE TIME! It pizzes me off.I told him some people may not like and, and he thinks I'm crazy.

I call a lot of my friends honey IRL.
But it's never meant to be condescending - it's usually along the lines of a "hi honey!" rather than a "can you pick me up some lunch, thanks hun!"

Certain people, it doesn't bother me at all. Others can say it and it irks the hell out of me. I cannot predict which people fall into which category either.

I agree. Most of the time I actually like it, unless I don't like the person saying it. And it depends on the context of how it's said. ie: on here if someone says, "i hope you're doing ok, sweetie" (or something like that) then I like it. It makes me feel like the person really cares. I guess I'm a sap.

Normally it does not bother me at all.
However, I went to a new dentist the other day and he kept saying "ok honey.... good girl...." I felt like I was 5 and my mommy was holding my hand.
