Phil and Ted double stroller vs. Baby trend sit and stand

We've narrowed it down to these two. The BT stroller will have the two full seats- and we'll remove the back seat once DD is big enough.

We're leaning toward the P&T because DH really liked the way it handled and he doesn't want us to wind up buying another stroller down the line.

The P&T is about 500.00 vs. the Baby trend at about 175.00.

Can I get personal feedback from anyone who has either one of these double strollers?

Awwww- thanks for asking. We are currently in *survival mode*. Figuring out how to take care of both has been trying- but I will say that taking care of a NB is old hat!!!! I think back to how stressed I was when Madelyn was a NB and I laugh..... it was WAY easier with just 1!

Mads is WAY more jealous than I thought she'd be. But it's getting better every day. My PED recommended to always put her needs first and to get her *involved* by letting her help take care of the baby. So far that has been good- and she's starting to give Eliza kissesChat Icon .

ok- now I've hijacked my own thread....Chat Icon

The Phil and Teds is a great stroller, but it is very heavy. My friend had one and sold it, however several of my friends have them and love them.

Congrats on the new baby!

I see the P&T allll over NYC when I am visiting my parents.

I know Melissa77 has a sit and stand and loves it. And I think it is probably better for the "burbs. IMO (but what do I knowChat Icon )

My problem with the Phil and Ted is the child underneath. I would be worried the child cannot see much and the little fingers and the wheels.

I agree. Or if I hit a puddle the one underneath would get all wet and muddyChat Icon

The Phil and Teds is the choice of the Yummy Mummy of two where I live, and my friends all find that their older child LOVES to sit on the bottom bit, its like the rumble seat. They love it. They can see everything, none of them are complaining.

It's gotten fantastic reviews all over the web. The lady at the store where we tried it out mentioned that most older kids love to sit in the lower seat for te same reason you mentioned.

I was hoping to hear some personal reviews, so thank you for sharing. You mentioned it being heavy though- online it's listed at being only 21 pounds?

I actually have both and I LOVE the P&T! I don't have time now, but I can give you a more detailed comparison/review of them later. I'll update when I get a chance!

I think the P&T is great for walking not travel. My neighbor has one it's 5 years old and is still in excellent condition however she did mention that it's a PITA to close and take with you in a car.

Re: Phil and Ted double stroller vs. Baby trend sit and stand

When I just had one DC I had a Peg Perego Pliko, which I think hands down is the best single stroller out there, so that's kind of where my comparisons come from.

When DD arrived I got the P&T. The biggest drawback of the P&T is that you can't use it with 2 kids and a car seat. FYI, there is a car seat adapter you can get, but you can only use it in single mode so then your older DC would have to walk. So for quick trips in and out it's a PITA to have to take the baby out and transfer to the stroller. It was kind of annoying so I got the BT Sit and Stand (the regular one, not the one with the 2 seats) for times when I wanted to be able to just run in somewhere quick and not have to take DD out of the car seat. My DS has just turned 2 so he was able to handle the jump seat well. He likes to stand, but he tries to get out so I usually make him sit and buckle him in. The ONLY time I ever use the Sit and Stand is when I'm going somewhere quick, otherwise I always take the P&T. The Sit and Stand doesn't maneuver very well, the steering is not that great, it's hard to make turns in narrow places, and feels heavy to push. It does have a decent sized basket and a console, but I think the benefits of the P&T outweigh those advantages. The P&T is sooooo easy to push, steer, and maneuver through tight spaces! In fact, I think it handles much better than even my Pliko! It rides so smooth and is so easy to push. It fits anywhere you can fit a single stroller. I can squeeze through racks and aisles, fit into dressing rooms, and turn very easily. About the positions...the newborn position with the baby in the sling I'm not so much a fan of. In the beginning my DD didn't mind when she was in that sleepy newborn stage and I think it actually rocked her to sleep, but once she started becoming more alert she didn't really like being in there. I never quite figured out how you were supposed to work the seat belt either. I used to put a sleep positioner in there to keep her snug. At around 3 months I moved her to the second seat on the bottom...she LOVES it! She loves being able to sit down there and look around at everything. She can see plenty out the sides and in front off to the side. She is always very happy down there. On the other hand, she hates being in her car seat so when I put her in the sit and stand I can usually get no more than 5 minutes before she starts to fuss and cry. Sitting up in the bottom seat of the P&T she is able to see so much more...the seat has 2 positions so you can have it somewhat reclined for younger babies. I think around 3 months is a good time to make the switch. The second seat is very easy and fast to attach and remove. I also like that if I'm out with just one or if I know the older one is going to want to walk I can still use the same stroller and just use it as a single without the extra seat. There are guards that go over the wheels to keep fingers out and I've never been worried about my DD getting splashed or muddy. The seat is low, but it's not on the ground.

I find them both easy to fold and similar in weight. Some people have said that it's heavy, but I really don't think it's that bad and I was used to a Pliko, which IMO is pretty lightweight. It's no where near as heavy or as bulky as a side by side jogger or something like a Graco tandem stroller. The P&T and BT also take up about the same amount of trunk space, but I think the P&T might actually take up less, it folds up very compactly. I have a mid sized SUV and I usually keep them both in the trunk so depending on where I'm going I can choose which one to take. Once DD is out of the infant seat I'll probably get rid of the Sit and Stand.

The P&T is short on storage space. I can fit my diaper bag and maybe 1 or 2 smaller shopping bags down there, but my DD's feet haven't reached into the basket yet so my space will probably start shrinking as she gets older. It's also not the easiest to access once you have a baby in the bottom seat. It's a trade off, but I think it's worth it. It also doesn't have a cup holder, but the BOB console will fit if you feel you need one. You're supposed to always put the older child on top, if you have too much weight on the bottom the stroller could tip backwards.

What else...the Sit and Stand stinks for walks through the neighborhood. It always feels like a struggle for me to push and steer and it doesn't handle bumps well. It just doesn't compare to the P&T in that respect. Another reason I got the P&T was so that I wouldn't have to buy a double jogger. My DD is 7 months old now and I've been jogging with it with no problem. I'm 5'7" and I don't ever feel like I'm kicking the back of the stroller.

So basically IMO the Sit and stand is good for it's ability to handle a carseat and for storage space, but the P&T wins in all other respects. Another thing to mention about the P&T, you will get looks and everyone will point and be talking about your stroller (at least in the burbs where I am). People always stop me to tell me how cool it is and I'm sure there are people out there who give me dirty looks too because the think I put the baby in the basket! Often people don't realize there's a baby down there until they hear her making noises...it was very funny when she was in the sling part because then you really couldn't see her and people would be trying to figure out where the crying was coming from! Well, there's my long winded dissertation on the pros and cons of each stroller for you! Whew! If I could only get one I would get the P&T!
