Re: Photography Thread
Here is a shot I took of DH in Myrtle Beach last winter. I have a question for those more experienced: I recently became interested in birding and I bought a new Canon Powershot camera with a nice zoom, image stabilization, and other fun stuff. I simply cannot get a clear shot when I zoom in, it's still shaky and blurry. I know I must read up on it, the camera has many many features, but until then,...anyone!!?? Image Attachment(s):

Which lens are you using? Can you post an example?
Some lenses are naturally a little soft at certain parts of their range, especially ones with a lot of range.
Are you supporting the lens? The longer the focal length, the more camera shake you will get. Are you shooting with the fastest shutter speed possible? How fast is your lens? A lot of zoom lenses are slow (they have a high minimum aperture).
It sounds like camera shake! How do you hold the camera? Do you anchor your left hand to your body? You can also try leaning against a tree, or better yet, use a tripod!
ETA: I just saw it's a powershot. Which mode are you using? Try using the "Action" mode. it will default to a higher shutter speed and reduce camera shake!

Thank you so much !! It seems mostly when I zoom in I have the problem. I just have the lens that the camera came with so far. I think you are right, I think I am holding the camera incorrectly also. I really appreciate that advice!!!!!

Even with a point and shoot, it's important to support the camera. Anchor your left arm to our body, stand with legs apart and use your left hand to support the lens or camera. Just the act of pressing the shutter causes vibration in the camera. When shooting in low light with a tripod, many people use a wireless or cable release to avoid even that much camera shake.

Add them to your album here on LIF.
Right click the photo in your album (not the thumbnail) and view the properties, copy (using Control and C) the 'http' address in full.
Come back to this page.... Click "Insert web Image" and paste (using Control and V) 'http' address in.
