Pictures w/Santa at Macy's in NYC?

Has anyone done this with their kids? We're coming up to NY for Thanksgiving and want to take the kids to see Santa in Macy's. We've never done it before even before kids. We were wondering how long do you think the wait in line is? We're looking to go either on Saturday or Sunday right after Thanksgiving. Thanks!

The Sat or Sun after Thanksgiving it's going to be realllllly busy. I've been up to that floor during the week after work and seen crazy lines. I would guestimate an hour on line.

I have gone as a child and an adult. This will be the first year we get to bring our DS. The wait on Thanksgiving weekend will be long. Would it be possible to go on Wenesday, the day before.

You should definetely go, even with the long wait. It is truly an experience.

what is it like? it's not the typical santa thing? i've never been and we're heading into the city on the 30th - we could add this to our day if it's worth it!

I've never seen Macy's so dead as I have this year. My co-worker went about a 1/2 hour before they opened - no line, Santa & the elves were happy & just starting their day.

I recommend that!

We're not going to be in NY until at least Wednesday afternoon, from what I've read Santa isn't there until that Friday right after Thanksgiving. I thought he was there sooner, but I could be wrong. We've waited more than an hour for the Santa in our local mall. He is a good Santa, but not that good! Chat Icon

I just couldn't see us waiting for 3 hours. I'm really looking forward to it. I hope the kids enjoy it.

I'm upset that the tree won't be lit until after we leave NY. I was hoping the kids could see it in person. What else can we take the kids to do? Chat Icon

Its really cute. They set up this big room all christmasy and such. There are animated peoples, elves, santas, tons of trains and lights. The santas are awesome looking. The staff (elves) are very nice. Funny the last time we went there and got our picture was before our wedding. We were online with a good number of people, but no children at all. All these adults were getting their pictures taken with Santa.

I am sure that weekend will be insane -
You'll only be in NY for the w/e?
If so, I'd get there about 1/2 hr. before they open .....

It sounds cute!

We're driving up early Wednesday morning and leaving early Monday morning. It's about a 12 hour drive w/all the stops (LOL!), then Thanksgiving Day, then Black Friday, so that only leaves Saturday or Sunday. We're going to be upstate NY for that Wednesday night andThanksgiving and then driving down to the island that night. We're going to have to take the train in. I don't think I can get everyone out of the house earlier enough! Chat Icon

We always go the Friday after Thanksgiving. We go early in the morning around 9. The line is short and the store isn't crowded. Then my mom lets the kids pick out a toy or an ornament to remember that day.

Just a word of warning, there are 4 Santas that day. Talk to the ELF and tell her you want the most robust Santa! Last year one of them was pretty puny!

Pictures are around 17.00

Have fun!

I didn't think the santa was that great to be honest, but it's fun to do for the experience. They have multiple santas to keep the line moving (think disney and all the mickey's in the tent). Last time we went the line was horrendeous though. Almost 2 hours

Chat Icon How are they set up? I don't want the boys waiting in line and seeing 3-4 different Santa's at the same time! Chat Icon There is only 1 Santa in our family delusions! Chat Icon No, seriously though.... can you see all the different Santa's at once or as you're waiting? Thanks!

I am VERY picky about my Santas. He HAS to look like the real thing. Not kidding either! Chat Icon If he's a little guy with a fake beard I won't take a picture with him. LOL! Is there a "real" looking Santa there or should I just take the boys to our usual Santa here in NC? The Santa here definitely looks like the real thing. Chat Icon

You will never see the other santas. I don't know how they do it, but you only see one.

Re: Pictures w/Santa at Macy's in NYC?

That's great!!!

So you can actually tell the ELF that you want the best/fattest Santa and they'll send you to that line? The kids know what Santa is suppose to look like, so if they don't get the biggest, realist looking Santa they will be so upset because when they get their pictures taken, the Santa's have been so real looking they actually believe it's Santa! I just don't want to wait and wait and be disappointed you know.

Nope you never see the other santas, they are each in their own little hut type thing, and the elves walk you in and guide you out. The santas look like the old world santas. Ours was a little puney, but I think his beard was real.

Re: Pictures w/Santa at Macy's in NYC?

Crashing...

We went every year up until a few years ago. The wait can be long but it is not like the mall at all. You walk through his village and workshop.

You NEVER see more then one Santa -- they are each in their own seperate areas.

We have pictures from every year and they come out every christmas. Such a good time and I think your kids will really enjoy it. We are trying to go back this year with my nieces!
