PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
Hi Everybody, congrats on your pregnancies, this board got me through mine with DS! I am cautiously returning, I'm about 5w5d. I had a chemical/early mc in november. The dr. put me on progesterone suppositories (generic kind) and they make me unbelievably uncomfortable (itchy sorry tmi), I was on crinone with ds and I did have this reaction eventually but it took a couple of weeks to develop. Has anyone else experienced this? An option the dr. has given me is to receive a weekly injection of progesterone in oil, it says it is in sesame oil. This just makes me so nervous, what if I develop some reaction? I eat sesame seeds. Should I just try to stick with the discomfort of the suppositories? Anyway I'm just looking for anyone who's btdt or any info at all. TIA and Happy And Healthy 9 Months!

Re: PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
I have done both.
I HATED the suppositories and did daily PIO injections for the first ten weeks.
I would choose the PIO any day, but if you are bad with needles, I wouldnt rec it. It is intramuscular and you definitely get sore from it.

Re: PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
I complained about the suppositories until I did the PIO. They stink to put it mildly! In a pinch I do it myself in my thigh, but it gets very sore there the next day. Now DH does them in my back/butt area. Still stinks, only 13 more days/shots until I am DONE!
Good luck, it really is a personal preference, but I might be inclined to take a shot once a week as opposed to daily suppositories.

Re: PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
ive done both and never in a million years would i ever choose PIO over crinone. crinone may be gross but it is SOOOOO much more tolerable than PIO. i was on 2CC's of PIO a day after my IVF cycle. the shots are really big needles that you (or your DH) have to stab into your a$$ every day. for me the injection sites got horribly irritated where i would get rashy. and the PIO itself settles under the skin and gets sore and lumpy. i had to use a heating pad for a half hour after every injection and even that didn't always help. oh and not to mention that every other shot would bleed and if you inject too close to the spine you get horrible backaches.. need i say more??

Re: PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
I vote for PIO. If you get a prescription for EMLA cream and apply it 30 minutes before injection, you won't feel the needle at all. And just massage for 2 minutes after the injection and you won't have soreness. I did PIO for 7 weeks TWICE and never had pain due to these 2 things.

Re: PIO Injections Prog Suppository Question
I have done both, but my suppositories are the endometrin, not that messy, they are like a big pill. I also was put on PIO and after only 2 weeks the sites were so sore. I did massage the area, after and use a heating pad etc. I was also using arnica on the area after. It all helped, but god my A#$ was sore. I'm 7 weeks and my dr just put me back on the suppositories. and I am glad. My muscles were so sore before that I was avoiding doing certain things.
The actual injection is fine, it is the next day that hurts.
Good luck
