PLACES OF WORK Banning email sites (and online sites)
What are your throughs on this ?
I dont see the difference between checking emails and going out for a cigarette break or chatting with someone for a few minutes.
I know it's mostly done so that people WORK and dont sit on emails all day.
But in cases where workers can get to a computer ONLY on break time, not allowing them to check emails is just silly.
Emails and online surfing are not ALWAYS non-productive and non work related.
Now I just have to learn to use my new blackberry to check emails

Re: PLACES OF WORK Banning email sites (and online sites)
We're VERY restricted at my job (including LIW!!) but somehow this site was not included. Thank goodness!!
As for how I feel about it...
I understand the point of it, but I don't necessarily agree with it. I think a job like mine is too strict, like blocking LIW or sites like shutterfly, etc., but I can see blocking certain sites such as myspace or youtube.
There's no reason to be on a site like that for work and some of the content (as we all know a la 2 girls 1 cup) can be offenseive to some on those sites.
Blocking an email site like hotmail or yahoo mail is pushing it in my opinion...

I think that if you can't trust your employees to know how to ration their Internet use so that they get their work done, then you should find other employees.
