Plainview LIJ moms
My friend has to chose where to deliver between Plainview or Winthrop _ I had plenty to offer for Winthrop but don't know anything about Plainveiw
Her questions: 1. Private or shared rooms 2. How were the nurses 3. Do they have help for first time nursing moms 4. Where does baby sleep - room in or nursery 5. If she decides not to nurse can she get formula - which kind 6. Any classes prior or tours

Re: Plainview LIJ moms
I'm not a btdt but I can tell you what I learned yesterday from the tour.
They give a tour every Sunday at 2 pm
They have both private and shared. They try to keep it one person to a room unless they are all full then they start adding two to a room.
The babies are encouraged to sleep in the nursery so the Nurses can watch over the LOs. If you want the baby to room in with you, you'll need a note from the Doctor.
They have a free breastfeeding class and lamaze is $150.

**This I agree with. 5 private rooms, 4 LDRP's (labor deliver recover in the same room) and the rest are doubles which they will try to keep only one patient in each until doubling up is necessary.
The babies are encouraged to sleep in the nursery so the Nurses can watch over the LOs. If you want the baby to room in with you, you'll need a note from the Doctor. ** This was not the case with me. I delivered both my kids there, they stayed with me (and several other babies stayed with their moms). I didn't need a note and no one ever questioned me.
To answer your other questions, the nurses are excellent, all very nice and helpful. They have lactation nurses and midwives on staff to help nursing moms, and provide formula for non-nursing. I was given Enfamil I think (I nursed so I didn't need formula so I don't remember what brand). They offer a free tour beforehand and also offer classes.
I liked the hospital alot and would recommend it.

Re: Plainview LIJ moms
Can't edit from iPhone but wanted to add that it also wasn't a problem to send the babies back to the nursery either. It was mom's choice.

Due to going to groups, I can say Christine the lactation consultant is amazing!
