Planning a Shower for Parents Adopting

My sister and brother-in-law originally planned to have a baby shower after they adopted their child formally, however they have decided they would like a shower sooner. So I am in the process of planning one and had a few questions.

Are there any activities or games anyone can suggest that would be fun? A lot of the traditonal games used focus on characteristics of birth parents, baby weight, etc. so those wouldn't work. The adoption is domestic also.

Also, are there any issues or problems that might pop up that I may not anticipate?

TIA!

I wish I could help, but I chose not to have a shower before.

If this is what they want I would guess it could be similar. I have never seen games about the parents characteristics, but bingo would still work.

Thanks! Bingo would work. I am thinking of games featuring baby photos of the birth parents and guests, or quizzes about the birth parents and what they were like as babies/young children. It's fun, but not appropriate.

Originally they were going to wait for the shower, but I think she is getting concerned about having what they need for the baby in advance, and also wanted something fun to celebrate the arrival of a new child in the family. Their counselor thought they might have a baby fairly soon, but I hope they don't wind up waiting a long time.

Still, if they really want a shower now I think they should have one.

i've done something at bridal showers that might work well for something like this...
i went online and got a bunch of quotes/jokes about love and marriage ( you could find ones about babies and parenthood).
i got enough to have one for each guest, and typed them on little strips of paper. before the mom starts opening presents, every guest gets a slip of paper with a quote. then, befpre the mom opens up that guest's present, the guest reads their quote outloud. it really was a cute way to keep people involved and entertained while the guest of honor is opening presents. the guests can't wait to her the next quote.
AND you could find ones that focus more on raising the child and the joys of parenthood, rather than who the baby looks like, etc....

Re: Planning a Shower for Parents Adopting

I hosted a shower for a dear friend who was adoption from China.
The baby food tasting game was a big hit. I did a "Think Pink" theme.
When I was pregnant I did not want any of those "how big is your waist" games so I don't think you need them to have a great shower.
I just planned a great shower to celebrate a wonderful baby coming home.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I appreciate it.

What is the baby food tasting game? I have never done that.

I skipped games at my shower actually, but my sister seems to want some, so I'm looking for ideas. One thought I'm having is that the agency is in Texas, and very likely the baby will begin life in Texas (not necessarily though). But we could do a Texas theme of some sort.

Re: Planning a Shower for Parents Adopting

The baby food tasting game:

Chose 5 jars of baby food from the store- and not just the easy "peaches". You number each jar 1 thru 5. Make a list of list of which food is which number- that is the master list. Do not lose it. You need it as the judge. After each is numbered clearly with a sharpee at the bottom of the jar, remove the label. then number each jar on the sides as well.
Each person gets a spoon and a game card. I printed my own using our theme and the numbers 1-5 with a line next to each.
Each person must take the food and then write down what it is. it is actually pretty hard. I had 2 prizes for winners.

Do they have a room "theme"? That can also help you with a theme. This is a domestic adoption- correct? Have they been chosen by birth parents yet?
