Re: planning on working till the very end...

Good question

With my commute to the city I may not make it to the end... so I wonder the same. I plan to ask HR when I sit down with them.

Re: planning on working till the very end...

I believe that your disability starts the day of DCs birth. I worked until Monday, took Tuesday and Wednesday as sick days for pre surgical testing and started FMLA & disability on Thursday when DS was born.

ETA: Once you go out, you start using the 12 week FMLA. For example a co worker was on bedrest for4 weeks prior to DDs birht, she took 4 weeks FMLA came back I believe for 2 then had her DD and was out for the rest of the 12 and returned when DC was 8 weeks old. If she had enough vacation time she might have been able to use it for bedrest but I am not sure. FMLA really has nothing to do with DCs birthdate as it has to do with some type of medical issue.

FMLA starts the day you have the baby. It runs concurrent to anytime you get paid for. If you go out before you have the baby you have to use your own time.

I think it depends on the circumstances. If you have a letter from your doctor stating that you can't work then I think you can get disability (that is what I understood from my HR person).

Thats true. My compnay requires a note that you are on bedreast, have ablood pressure problem, or one other reason (forgot what it was).

Re: planning on working till the very end...

I think that every company is different. I worked for a large Pharma Company when I was pg with #1.

I was too sick to work at about 6 weeks before EDD. All I had to do was have Dr. write a note that I could no longer work due to medical reasons.

Then, I got disability- 100% pay until DD was born. As soon as she was born, I rec'd 100% pay- through disability as maternity leave (8 weeks-c-section).
When those 8 weeks were up, I used 2 remaining vacation weeks-full pay.

Then I took 12 weeks unpaid- FMLA.

Re: planning on working till the very end...

I am a teacher and not planning on using my mathernaty leave in Sept. The baby is due last week of school. I could take it early before the baby is due but so far I plan to work until the very end. I think you are entitled by law to get it, either before or after...I am not 100% on that one so don't quote me Chat Icon
