plantar fasciitis... does it go away?
i've searched online and i get different answers and my old dr never gave me a straight answer... in search of a new dr.
i had it right before i got married. it eventually went away. since i started to walk our new dog almost ever day, it's back.
it's making me feel so old to have pain when i walk.

Re: plantar fasciitis... does it go away?
Not sure what your weight status is but I had it years ago, lost 60 lbs and it went away. I was at least 100 lbs overweight and my dr said that if I lost weight I would basically cure it and it was true for me. Since then I gained the 60+ back and its back with a vengence! It makes me feel old too. I know what you mean. I am litterally in tears when I wake up in the morning.

Re: plantar fasciitis... does it go away?
i must admit, i do have quite a few lbs to shed.
but if walking hurts, how am i to get the weight off?! a bit of a catch 22.
i guess, i'm going to have to look for other ways to get some weight off BEFORE i can do some hard-core aerobics.
thanks for the info. let's me know that there is a chance for a pain free life.

Re: plantar fasciitis... does it go away?
My doc gave me a shot of cortizon and that helped tremendously for immediate relief. Maybe a week or two and it was gone

Yep it is a catch 22! You just have to get over it I suppose!?!? I dont know how I did it but hey here I am back in the same place I was before!
Like Deb I had a cortizone shot and it helped a lot until it wore out (it lasted about 2 weeks). Oh and cortizone shots hurt like a beeeeeeeyatch IMO.
There are also a lot of stretching exercises your dr should be able to tell you about that help somewhat. Also I was told to never go barefoot or sockfooted at home, to always have sneakers on. It was kinda weird sitting on the couch with PJs and sneakers though.

Re: plantar fasciitis... does it go away?
Yes, it can. BUT it may take a long time and good care.
Major contributors are: - A few extra pounds - shoes with no arch support
I suggest you wear some good tennis shoes for a while.
I had it for a while a couple of years when I was wearing flip flops all summer. I was able to take care of it (I am a massage therapist ) but it took a while.

I am an athletic trainer and most of my kids at school get this frequently. I have them to do non weight bearing cardio exercises, such as the bike, elliptical, stair master (but sometimes that makes it hurt)... That way they will still be in shape and lose weight, without all of the pounding on their feet. I also set up a pool workout for them. It does go away in time - make sure you stretch a lot, wear a nighttime splint, ultrasound helps - hth!

I have it - have had for years - if you have flatter feet it can stay forever - there are times it does not bother me but there are times i get flare ups and severe pain - switching sneakers helps and wearing low heals helps lots
