play dates
I am really having a hard time letting my son take the bus to his friend's house for a play date afterschool. Also, some of the families around here have nannies and they wind up watching the kids because the parents aren't even home. I am also uncomfortable with who is watching my son....I don't even know them. Why would I trust them to watch my child? Are they going to watch him like I do? I don't let them even play out in the front yard without me being out there to watch them and the backyard gates are locked. Anyone feel the same way?

Re: play dates
In my school district, children are not permitted to ride the school bus for a playdate thats after school.
I would invite the other child to your house if the parents are not going to be supervising.

Re: play dates
It so sad that we have to feel this way, but I would rather be neurotic about my child's safety. I don't trust anyone other than my close friends or family. Life is too precious. Sometimes when my son's friends come over on the bus, the parents don't even call to check that they made it safely. I make sure I call the parent to let them know they are here and everything is fine. But that's just me. Just look at the Sunday school teacher in California. You just never know.

Re: play dates
i hate to say it but it never gets better..my ds is ten..he has only THREE good friends from school that i allow him to go to their house, because i know the family..he is also very good friends with my best friends son, and his baseball teammates, but as far as school goes, i dont know TOO many families around here, and to be honest, ive heard ALOT of horror stories about classmates families, and how the parents do things, and im not happy..so my rule is, if i dont know them, they can come to OUR house to play..usually the mother that just expects that id let my sone go to her house without knowing her, has no problem with just dumping her son at my house lol..

This is so true! The ones that let their kid come home on my child's bus doesn't even know me, and when the kid comes over by bus, they don't even call to make sure the kid made it okay. What is wrong with these people? Too busy playing tennis? I think they have their priorities out of whack and maybe should have thought twice before having kids...
