Play Kitchen for a Boy?

I want to buy a play kitchen for my DS for x-mas but my husband gets this look on his face when I mention it. He wants to get one of the toy tool benchs but they are for 3+ and DS likes the play kitchen at the library and Mom & Tot class.

Should I just get it and let my DH deal with it?

Does your DS have a play kitchen?

We got our son a kitchen and it has an outdoor bar-b-que on the other side. It is awesome. He loves it. It was supposed to be for Christmas but we couldn't wait!

Remind him how manly and sexy Gordon Ramsay is...not to mention rich, virile, gorgeous...

I could go on.

I want a kitchen for my boy, but we have no room for it.

Absolutely, get it. Hey someday his future wife may love you if HER dh can actually cook. Can't wait to get one for DS.

BTW, BJ's had a really cute one!

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

DS has had a kitchen for a few years. It's an outdoor one, since we don't have room inside, but when the house gets bigger, we may get another one for inside.

Like AP mentioned, nearly all chefs are men. Even if he doesn't become a chef, he should learn to cook. Women love a man who can cook... Chat Icon Chat Icon (Luckily for me, I can fix things, so DW overlooks the lack of cooking ability... Chat Icon )

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

My DH gives me the same look when I mention play kitchens-LOL but I always say to him 9 out of 10 times I bet if you go in the kitchen of restaurants we eat at the head chef is a man and many famous chefs are men so there is no problem with DS wanting to play chef and cook!Chat Icon

I really like the wooden ones from Target. I have an older version which is navy blue, but this one is even better! Screams boy if you ask me!

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

My DH is the same way! I compromised and got my son the outdoor bbq kitchen w/the umbrella...it has a stovetop, and a table attached, and its a dark burgandy color so it looks a little more masculine!

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

We got DS a play kitchen for his second birthday and he always loved it. Fortunately at the time, the PBK outlet had the cute blue kitchen so it was kind of boyish.

I look at it as training him to be a good husband who cooks for his wife someday!

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

My DS#1 loves his kichen we have at Grandma's. He has the work bench at my house so I did not need a kitchen as well. Even in school all boys play with the kitchen and have tea parties.

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

I think this is such a funny subject....because my DH does the same thing. I think this is a very neutral gift and many pre-ks abd kindergardens have kitchens. I know my DS would love one because he used to have one at his old babysitters house. I had to drag him away. I want to buy one for DS too and we have another DS on the way so we'll definately get a lot of use out of it.

Buy it and hubby will deal with it:)

Re: Play Kitchen for a Boy?

I mentioned above that we have a kitchen set for DS outside. Well, over the weekend, he was "making a pie" using the couch and pillows...Chat Icon He took some ingredients, put them in a pie tin, put it in the "oven", put the timer on, took it out, commented on how good it turned out, and gave me a piece. Chat Icon

(He's done similar "cooking" projects while in the tub as well...)

If DS wants to play in the kitchen, there's no way you can stop them, so you might as well make it nicer for them.... Chat Icon
