Playtex Drop Ins and Natural Latch Nipples Question

Emerson has been doing well with the Drop Ins but it takes her a while to finish her bottles and she falls asleep A LOT because I think she has to suck so hard to get the liquid and collapse the bag. I noticed that Playtex makes a variable flow nipple which say 0+ months on the package whereas the medium flow nipple says 3-6 months. My question is.........can she use that variable flow nipple even though she is so small (she's 5 weeks) or even the medium flow??? Anyone try it or have any info? TIA!!! Chat Icon

I would say try it... it can't hurt.

Worst case scenario, you go back to the Stage 1 nipples.

KWIM?

Usually w/the variable flows (I use them on DD's Born Free bottles) there is a slow, medium, and fast stage, but I have found that the slow on the BF nips is a lot faster than the slow (stage 1) nips.

Re: Playtex Drop Ins and Natural Latch Nipples Question

Okay I bought just about all the nipples they had...variable flow I thought he had to work harder to get it out...the medium was great, the rapid was like sticking him under a faucet...

We used medium for awhile but now are back to slow and he drinks his bottle in no time...

They arent to much $$ so I say buy them both and see which she likes better.

ETA: I used medium with DS around 6 or 8 weeks...

I found that variable and medium were too much for DD at that age. When I used the medium, i think there was more milk on her chin then in her mouth. I started with the variable at around 12w.

I had to use the med. flow for ds when he was 5 wks bc I put rice cereal in his bottle (acid reflux) he did really well with the nipple and an added bonus was he drank his bottle faster Chat Icon just pay attention to make sure DC is swallowing ok, so doesn't choke

I would say try it too.

I use the same bottles and to keep Katie awake to finish it, or come close to finishing it , I will move the bottle around until she starts sucking. Or tickle her cheek with my finger, or talk to her. Sometimes I have to talk REALLY loud to wake her up during the bottle

I would try the medium. Around 6 weeks thats what DD was on. For some reason the variable didn't work well for her.
