please explain BS kohls cash
I don't shop there often, but, found a matress topper on sale. I earned $30.00 towards my next purchases.
I went back a week later figuring I'll use my "cash" but ended up returning the prior purchase.
Instead of crediting me the full $196, they only put back $164 because I used the "cash" to make another purchases.
so it seems to mean, as a consumer, I'm borrowing "cash" off one purchase to make another, I'm not liking this
what am I missing? sounds like BS

Re: please explain BS kohls cash
Sounds like you should have purchased something else with the Kohls cash and then waited to return the other item. Then you probably would have gotten the total amount back. Never did a return though like this so I am not 100% sure.

It's free money you earned because you spent a certain amount of money at their store. If you return that item, you are no longer entitled to that free money. It makes sense they would deduct it from your return if you already spent it on another item. If this rule wasn't in place, then we could all go and earn kohls cash, then return the items and never have to pay for them. Not sure they could stay in business that way, people would continuously scam and abuse it. Only use the kohls cash if you are definitely keeping the item. If not sure, just toss the earned kohls cash. If you don't use the kohls cash, you will always get your full refund back.

Re: please explain BS kohls cash
It's actually similar to the Ulta rewards points. If I spend 50 dollars today at Ulta I earn 50 points. (if you amass 1000 points you get $50 off, 2000 points gets you $125 off, etc....)
But if I go back tomorrow and return $25 worth of those items that I bought today they aren't going to let me keep the rewards points. They will take 25 points off my rewards point balance.
This is the same thing.

I'm confused as to how you think that they should handle the situation. do you think that they shouldn't offer the Kohl's cash to begin with? I am sure a lot of people shop there specifically because of Kohl's cash. If you buy something and earn reward points for it, but then you return it, of course you lose the reward points. It would be silly to think that you wouldn't. If you've already spent it, then they take it back....

I'm not understanding why this policy would make you boycott the store. You didn't lose money. You still have essentially a $30 store credit.
If kohls didn't have this policy they would probably go out of business from people doing exactly what you tried to do. (I'm sure you didn't do it intentionally, but trust me many people WOULD do it on purpose to game the system.)

It sounds like you ultimately broke even and didn’t lose any money. The $30 you didn’t get refunded was taken off the other purchase. So while you didn’t save $30, you didn’t lose it either.
I don’t particularly care for Kohl’s, but I have to say that their whole amazon returns situation is brilliant. Return the item at the back of the store and give a menial coupon as an incentive to shop.

for some reason I'm put off by this situation, not sure why, I just am. I don't shop there often, once in a blue. It's rare I find anything I like or that fits well.
