Please help - is this a side effect of stopping BF? Really worried...

I have been EBF for 7.5 mos. today i cut down one more feeding so for the first time i only nursed once in morning and once at night. i am weaning really slowly - it has been 2 wks since i added the last bottle and three weeks b/f that i added the first.

Tonight about 30 min after nursing ds while rocking him I started to feel really ill - nauseated and achy out of nowhere and chilly - then the shaking started - im shaking - like shivering with my teeth chattering all over. it started 10 min ago and now has almost gone away.

I have no temp whatsoever. The last time i felt like this i had just had DS and it happened a few times while pg and during labor/delivery - could this be hormone related or is something very wrong with me?

Thanks in advance to those of you awake and still reading...Chat Icon

ETA: So after typing this, about an hour later my temp went up to almost 102. Called my ob who didn't think it was BF related b/c I had no other symptoms of it. I went to my regular dr. and he couldn't find an obvious cause but took lots of blood so i will have more answers soon.

Thanks to all that helped!

I am also going through a slow weaning process. I just dropped a feeding last week and am down to 3 times a day (DD is 14 months). I have not experienced what you are describing. But if you continue to feel this way, call your ob/gyn. If your ob/gyn doesn't know what it could be, try a lactation consultant.

If you don't have a fever, I would guess it isn't mastitis but I am not sure.

Feel better!Chat Icon

Hi, I experienced that too in the beginning (2 months pp) when I cut down on pumping....I ended up w/ a clogged milk duct. I felt dizzy, nauseous and had a slight fever. My ob/gyn gave me antibiotics & I felt fine a few days later & was still able to pump/nurse.

I gave up BF kind of cold turkey due to medical reasons and never had any of those symptoms. I did get cramps as though I was getting my period which still hasn't come. Feel better

You might be getting sick or you could have a clogged duct. Does your breast feel tender or is it red in any area?

it could just so happen that you have somehting viral at the same time of weaning, OR...as your ducts dry up they can some times become infected, this can cause a high feverChat Icon Chat Icon
