PLEASE HELP!! 4 year old still having accidents
My son has been "potty trained" since he was three. He showed all this signs at that point and he was the one to say he wanted to be potty trained.
Peeing was never an issue, he handled that well almost immediately. He has been in underwear full time for about 9 months-but he is still having poop accidents. And when I say still having them, I mean consistently having accidents several times a week. When he does go on the potty it's because we have caught him about to go and get him there on time, sometimes with him insisting that he doesn't have to go.
At this point, he doesn't have full blown accidents, but there are marks on his underwear (or small tiny bits of poop-sorry tmi!) and then we can get him on the potty to go. He says things like, I chose to poop in my pants, I didn't want to stop playing. He is the MOST stubborn kid I have ever met. We have tried every kind of reward/behavior system we can think of.
He has always been pretty regular and hasn't had a traumatic experience going or anything. I do know that when he does go it is tremendous-to the point I can't believe it came out of his little body. He did have one bout of not going for about 3 1/2 days, I gave him a laxative and he went that day and has been regular since. We did start giving him fiber gummy vitamins at that time, thinking it might help make it easier to go, but honestly that was his only experience with constipation.
I would just love for someone to have the magic answer to make this better-because I would love for my life to stop revolving around someone else's poop
Any advice is appreciated!!
