If you are traveling within 7 days (maybe it's 14.. but I think it's 7) you can get it done in person at the passport office in NYC

If you are traveling within 7 days (maybe it's 14.. but I think it's 7) you can get it done in person at the passport office in NYC
I think it's 14 days - and you can get it same day.

Hi---depending on where you are going, I heard on the news that now you can show(at the border) that the application was filed..as long as you have a copy, and valid picture id and a birth certificate..because getting passports are so backed up-----just thought this might help...call 311 and find out...

yes, and pretty much expect to spend the entire day there. There's also a passport office in CT, if that is better for you.

My friend got her passport in one day at the CT passport office. She just showed proof that she was traveling within the same week.

The best way is to go to the office in Manhattan-Downtown or the CT office and get in person, However you need to make an appt through the passport information number. You cannot just walk in.... You cannot go to the office on Long Island.
I know this because I was going to do have to do it if I didn't receive my passport but we ended up getting it with 4 days to spare..

Good luck getting an appt through the regular passport office in NYC or CT. I called several days in advance to try to get an appt and the line was constantly busy and I had to call at 6am everyday when they update the system with new appts. They wouldn't help me unless I was within 3 days of traveling. That didn't fly with me at all..too close for comfort. I used passportsandvisas.com and it was flawless..they do charge a premium on top of the regular passport fees, but we didn't have a choice. Not cheap, but we had our passports.
yes, there are some new rules about travel to Mexico, Caribbean and Canada. You can show a birth cert and/or license at immigration but I traveled two weeks before they changed it. The passport offices are overwhelmed with requests since they changed the rules in January.

We have all the paperwork filled out now have to get pictures taken then take them to the post office. We are traveling in January so we should be fine?

Use n emergency passport... I believe you have to call the US embassy and tell them you need something to travel with out of the states within a week. Its very similar to the original passport but its only one page and no hard covers. You will need to mail them a picture of you and they overnight it back to you. I had this done when I was 15 but im not sure if they still do it now.. its been a while.
