Please Help! Please recommend your ped. that's okay with delaying vaccines
I know this has been posted before, but I am so fed up with these dr's.
The first ped. we decided to part ways with because of the whole drama with the dairy allergy and forcing me to stop BFing when it wasn't necessary.
So we went to a new ped. who I really like, but she will only split up the first round of shots..after that she wants to give DS a combo shot of DTaP, Polio & PCV all in one..I don't want that. I think it's too much at one time. So I guess we have to go on the hunt again.
I would like for DS to not have more than 2 shots per visit..and to just separate the first round of vaccines. I also want to delay MMR for as long as possible.
I am in Queens, but will travel to Nassau. Please help

Re: Please Help! Please recommend your ped. that's okay with delaying vaccines
I dont know if you read Dr. Sears book on vaccines or not, but anyways, it is just a book that explains all the vaccines and on Dr.Sears website there is a list of vaccine friendly doctors, that dont mind postponing or not doing them at all etc.
I got my Ped From that list.
http://www.vipediatrics.com/
I use him, and i have been happy with him. He is not pushy on anything and is really easy going. It works well for me b/c i do a lot of my research and he just confirms/ gives his opinion etc on a lot of things.
here is the whole list of NY vaccine friendly doctors, it is not that long actually but ia m sure a lot of doctors are not listed

My ped. is in Garden City. DS gets 1 vaccine per visit. He has not gotten the rotovirus, flu or chicken pox vaccine. He just turned 2 and I am still delaying the MMR.

Re: Please Help! Please recommend your ped. that's okay with delaying vaccines
well, we're not delaying EVERYTHING... we're selectively delaying immunizations to diseases my infant is unlikely to be exposed to (polio, hep b....) my ped is totally fine with delaying these things as long as we don't go traveling to asia or africa
Other things (ex. meningitis vaccinations, DTaP...) he strongly recommends a baby get on time, since he has seen LI babies catch these diseases, and they could kill them I find his logic very sound...
He also is totally fine with spreading out immunizations (1 shot at a time)

My ped is ok with delaying and/or splitting, however, their policy is to charge you a $25 fee for each visit if you choose to not follow the regular schedule.

Re: Please Help! Please recommend your ped. that's okay with delaying vaccines
We have beein seeing our ped since DD was born. I never delayed or separated vaccines for DD , but I am pretty sure he is not against it. You can call and find out. He is really good and we love him(so does everyone else who is going to him), the only problem is that he is little busy, but only certain days, especially on Sundays( He is open on Sundays).
I like the fact that he has a solo practice and he weighs and measures the children himself-no nurse. He is affiliated with LIJ and another hospital, not sure which one.
