We use ADT. We chose them b/c they have several different monitoring stations, and if the power goes out where the monitoring station is, they can quickly re-route the monitoring to a different station. This happened when all of LI lost power several years ago, and they routed everything to their monitoring station somewhere upstate. Our other choice was Slomins but b/c they are local they only have the one monitoring station. Maybe I was paranoid but I think I remeber reading somewhere that crime goes up during periods of power outages so this is why we chose ADT.

We have Lowitt. They were the company my ILs used before we bought the house and when I shopped around they were the lowest priced monthly. They are located in Hicksville (or maybe it's Bethpage?)
We have FIOS so if our power goes out for an extended period our phones go out and the alarm wouldn't work anyway.

DO NOT USE SLOMINS!!! They are awful! We have had them since we moved in (August '05) and have had nothing but problems...we will be switching to ADT when our contract expires in Sept.

I have heard the complete opposite about slomins. Everyone that I know that has them are happy.

We use VMS Security in Yaphank. It's a locally owned business, not a franchise. Craig, the owner, met with us and spend a long time talking about the options and helping us put together the type of system we wanted. I think they have 3 central monitoring stations that act as back-up to the others if there are any issues. They've recently instituted a "preferred customer" program where his commercial customers are offering discounts to his residential customers via a perferred customer card. 10% off at Bobbique in Patchogue, just because we're a VMS customer - not bad!
