Kerrycec had a thread on this with the company prices she looked into and what their contracts stated - try fming her and running search - it had a lot of useful info for anyone looking for alarm systems.

Re: SO: Alarm System & Opt Voice - what company
We use Lowitt Alarms and a while back they sent us a letter requesting that if we switch to any VOIP that we keep a landline through the phone company for the alarm system. We haven't followed up with them if we can switch yet since we plan to go with FIOS anyway and we can require Verizon to keep the copper lines in the house if we want.

we're in NJ so we have we don't have optimum, but we have comcast digital voice (VOIP) and we have ADT. having VOIP wasn't a problem at all. everything works fine and we didn't need to have a landline for the alarm. we pay $38.99 and that includes the alarm with 2 keypads, windows, doors, motion sensors, and carbon monoxide detector.

Re: SO: Alarm System & Opt Voice - what company
I just signed with Brinks and I have FIOS phone, the salesman said he does houses with Opt-online. I think the only problem is if power goes out, If you have a battery back-up all is good. I will FM you with the agents name. I am getting 3 doors 2 motion and 2 keypads installed for free, monitoring is 29.99 per month. If you live in Nassau you have to pay the Nassau county police department a Vig of $20.00 a year.

Did you have to sign a contract for this price? I was just quoted for an alarm today and it wasn't free!
