We use an Elmo seat that goes directly on regular toilet. It's soft. It is white with little Elmos all over it. I got it at Toys R Us.
My mom has an Elmo seat that also goes directly on toilet but it's hard plastic and it actually giggles! She got it at Target.

Re: Please recommend your DC's "potty"
I am leaning towards not using a potty, but using the things that go directly on the toilet. For me, personally, emptying & cleaning the little potty grosses me out...plus, I don't have much room in my bathroom for a separate little potty, there's not much floor space.

if the potty seat grosses you out, you may want to look away
we leave the potty seat right in the living room. I read somewhere that it is easier for them while learning if they do not have to run to the bathroom and also easier if their feet can touch the floor (as with the potty seat)
I was grossed out too with the seat but it is not THAT bad

See this is what I was thinking too...I'm not grossed out by it, but I just wonder if getting her on the actually toilet is better than a little one
Soooooooo don't want to have to start potty training

Re: Please recommend your DC's "potty"
Baby Bjorn in white - I didn't want anything that sang a song or did a dance as frankly I have enough toys that do that already.
I love it as its so streamlined and easy to clean - you just pop the inner potty out - I even take that part in the car with us when we go out and she can do her business there if there is no bathroom in sight.
I also bought the seat for the toilet from baby bjorn and that pops on and off. This is good for when they are doing #2 as sometimes that takes awhile and you don't want to be holding her on there for that length of time.
I definitely recommend getting a potty as when they are training its hard for them to control their bladders until you get them to the bathroom. I had it in the living room for about 2 weeks (unless we had guests) and then I moved it to the bathroom.
Good luck

Re: Please recommend your DC's "potty"
We had the Elmo potty and toilet seat. However what really worked for us was the Mommy's Helper Padded Potty Seat with Step Stool.

I have the baby bjorn one because it has a high shield in the front for out of control peeing... Plus it's easy to clean.

Don't worry, you're not grossing me out. I've heard that too, about putting the potty other places in the house.
Who knows what I'll decide when she actually starts potty training. I'm not against the little potty, just ideally I'd love to avoid that clean-up
Now, has anyone see the Jon & Kate episode where she takes a picture of the kids next to their first poop on the potty? I love her, but THAT is nuts & gross

I also have the ring that goes on the toilet. I was grossed out by the thought of having to clean the little one. Plus then there is no transition from the little potty to the big one.
