Please remind me when to take a child to the ER with the stomach flu

It's no wet diaper for 12 hours, right? (He is 2 1/2 years old)

Anything else I am looking for?

I am second guessing myself right now.

Or am I thinking PM pediatrics? Do they do IVs?

Why do I have so many questions?

TIA!

DS was admitted to the hospital last Tuesday with the stomach virus. Our ped. told us to bring him in once his fever hit 104 and/or he had no wet diapers for 12 hours, or no tears, dry lips etc. All signs of dehydration. I hope your DS feels better soon! Chat Icon

Is he not wanting to take any fluids ? Or is it that once he does, they "come out" ?

An easy way to check for dehydration taught to me by my doctor after this last round of stomach flu.

Press against the bottom of his toe and see how quickly the skin turns red again- if it stays white longer than two seconds, head over immediately.

Just got over this stomach virus here, it sucks. No wet diapers for 12 hrs, crying with no tears and dry inside mouth are all signs of dehydration at this age that warrant a trip to the hospital. I hope he feels better soon and no one else catches it.
