The same thing happens in my family with my sister and her kids every year. I am just waiting for it to happen to me. You are not wrong, I feel the same way.

Definitely not wrong for you to feel how you do. Your baby can wear them for something else and the person will just have to understand-- hopefully it's somewhere that the person will be able to see him in their outfit!

You're not wrong at all. Like others have said, it's nice that this person wants to do something generous. However, he/she should have consulted you and made sure it was ok. It's good you told this person that you're buying the outfit so that they don't try to do it again in the future.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
As someone who didn't get the opportunity to buy DD her first Christmas outfit - NO YOU ARE NOT WRONG.
This year (her second Christmas) I bought her dress in July and told everyone.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
not wrong at all and I would have handled it the same way. This is my DS first Christmas as well and DH and I shopped around for two outfits (for Christmas Eve and Christmas) I would have bee nvery upset if smeone else had bought him outfits and expected that he wear them after we had spent time buying them.

You are not wrong AT ALL!!!
I have no problem with people buying my child clothes. But fancy holiday clothes...I like to do that myself.
You're a better person than me. I would honestly prefer in noone ever bought my son a stitch of clothes. I like the way I dress him a lot more than what people buy. And I like shopping for them! It's the one thing I can buy that Dh won't say a word!

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
I totally understand how you feel. I was very upset too for my DD's first holidays when my SIL (her godmother) gave me a burgundy velvet dress. She never said it was for Christmas but I felt like that is what she bought it for. I solved the problem by putting it on her for Thanksgiving instead.
I can tell you though, before I had a child of my own, it would not have occurred to me how important it is to buy the clothes for those special occasions. I know I used to buy my nephew's Christmas outfit almost every year. My sister never objected so I don't know if it bothered her or not. Now I feel like I took something away from her.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
thanks everyone!
i really didn't think i was wrong, but then i second guessed myself. i know someone asked who this person is, but i'd rather not say since you never know who is on here. but it's someone very very close to DS and DH
i think especially since i wouldn't be getting it until a day or so before christmas bothers me a lot as well--what if it doesn't fit (it won't at 6-9 months) or doesn't look good?
i'm glad i said something. hopefully this won't happen again.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
I don't think you are wrong at all, I would never let someone else pick out DDs holiday outfits, I love doing it too much myself. My kid, I get to choose.
I think she meant well and it is fun to buy clothes for kiddos, but I would have done the same as you-thanks, I appreciate the thought, blah blah blah, but no thanks.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
u are absolutely not wrong! mil has been buying all these clothes and eventhough a lot of it isnt my taste i have been using them....even the halloween costume i figured was fine that she bought but i said to myself if she decides to buy a christmas outfit u best believe dd wont wear it....see the difference bw my mom and mil is that my mom asks before buying something or asks what she should buy so that she buys what dd needs...my mom even said that since mil has been buying everything she wants to buy the christmas outfit but i choose what i want for her so thats what im doing

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
I think you should have the right to pick out his first christmas outfits. My sister did the same exact thing...she showed up at our house the other day with a dress for Kaydyn for Christmas (I already bought her an outfor Christmas eve and one for Christmas day). But I told her I would use it for pics with Santa. She was fine with that.

You are not wrong. I know this person meant well and as long as she knows you appreciate her thoughtfullness, tell her she can buy your child other clothes for the future.

I totally feel the same as you do.. I want to be the one who buys my dds christmas outfit, its your child. I dont get why people get upset b/c you want to buy the outfit yourself.. they can buy them reg. cloths.

i dont think you are wrong. like you those things are special for me. tell her that you would put the clothes on for new years. ITA. I understand people want to share in the fun of shopping for our DC, but it is important to us too, especially the firsts....

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
You're so not wrong
I must say.. its awful brave of that person to say that sort of thing to you about letting others buy stuff. Wow.. sorta childish isnt it? I mean this is YOUR child.
I'd appreciate the offer of clothes but like you, I'd have said "sorry, I have stuff picked already" and you and your DH have such a sweet story attached, how you BOTH picked them out. I think it's really sweet.
Oh well I guess.

Re: please tell me if i am wrong--regarding DS's first christmas outfit
Tell her she's not the mama.
I see nothing wrong if she called you up & asked if she could buy it for him or she has a great outfit & wanted you to see it beforehand in case you wanted it for Christmas.
To buy two outfits, declare it's what he's wearing for Christmas is pushy.
On the other hand, with spitting up & diaper changes...it's not such a bad idea to have another outfit just in case.
